CNN.com lays off web newscast staff(newteevee.com)

Just as I got off the stage at NewTeeVee Live with CNN Worldwide VP of Digital Marketing and Development Andy Mitchell, I saw a report that CNN is cutting back on its web video newscasts.

The company laid off its four CNN.com Live anchors as well as “several production staffers,” according WebNewser.

CNN.com Live launched as a free service in 2007 to replace the paid web service CNN Pipeline, which failed to gather many subscribers. Up till today, it had its own staff of anchors completely separate from the cable TV channel.

I followed up with Mitchell in the green room to ask about the layoffs, and he said that CNN is in no way pulling away from online video. However, linear, anchor-led broadcasts are more appropriate for television than for the web.

CNN Can Seize That Middle Ground (LA Times) Lest we forget the dead son-in-law of Saddam credited to CNN keeping it’s mouth shut.

With the resignation of its most opinionated host, Lou Dobbs, the cable news outlet can now start to hew more objectively between the partisanship of MSNBC and Fox News.

CNN Calls Fort Hood Killer Hasan a “Conservative” (GatewayPundit)

Now that the whole world knows that Fort Hood killer Nidal Hasan is an Islamist terrorist and nobody’s buying that he’s a victim, the state-run media’s moved on to a new tactic and are calling this Islamic radical a “conservative.”

The media is twisting itself into pretzels — pretzels! — doing everything they can to deny the obvious reality of Fort Hood. Last night, CNN, Anderson Cooper 360, Special Investigations Correspondent Drew Griffin reported this about the Fort Hood gunman Nidal Malik Hasan.

CNN: Hasan made NO attempt to hide his religion or his conservative Muslim ideology, which is exactly why some experts are convinced Nidal Hasan is NOT a terrorist."

This is outrageous on two counts! There is nothing “conservative” about Islamofascism. These people in the media continue to refer to anything they think is evil as “conservative.”

That’s pretty sick stuff by CNN but not surprising.

It’s right up their with their conservative teabagger jokes.

AP CEO to Staff: Sorry, We're Going To Keep Firing You (Silicon Valley Insider) Layoffs not over at The Associated Press.

AP CEO Tom Curley addressed staffers Thursday at a company-wide Town Hall forum, saying: "I know you all would like me to sound the all clear. I cannot do that."

While many employees have been shown the door, there will yet be cuts in order to slash 10% from the payroll as planned.

snip

Amid all these changes, employees continue to be kept in the dark about their jobs.

"The point I keep hearing staffers make is this: Why are layoffs taking so damned long?" says a source inside the AP.

"NYT cuts 100 people all at once the other day. Forbes axed a few dozen. But AP does this drip-drip stuff that's driving everyone bonkers and killing any enthusiasm for 'landing pages' and other plans."

Maximum Sentence In Bribery Case
WWJ.COM (Democrat Monica Conyers link)

Detroit (WWJ) -- A Detroit federal judge has sentenced a Detroit businesman and corruption figure to the maximum five years in jail for conspiracy to commit bribery.

Rayford Jackson arranged the bribes for now-former city councilwoman (Democrat) Monica Conyers

Ex-congressman (Democrat) gets 13 years in freezer cash case - William 'Cold Cash' Jefferson (AP)

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A former Louisiana congressman who famously hid $90,000 cash in his freezer was sentenced Friday to 13 years in prison for taking bribes, the longest term ever imposed on a congressman for bribery charges.

William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans for nearly 20 years, was convicted in August of taking roughly $500,000 in bribes and seeking millions more in exchange for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa.

The sentence was still far less than the nearly 30 years prosecutors had sought.

White House Counsel Craig to Step Down (Fox News)

White House Counsel Greg Craig is expected to announce on Friday that he plans to step down from his post following a rocky tenure, people familiar with the matter said.

Craig, the top lawyer at the White House and a close aide to President Barack Obama, has helped lead the administration's efforts on several national-security policies that initially enjoyed popular support but have since become liabilities for Obama.

These include the planned closure of the prison for terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the release of Bush administration-era national-security documents.

Craig has represented numerous high-profile clients:

In 1981, he was a member of the team that represented John Hinckley, Jr., who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan.

Craig represented Senator Ted Kennedy during the 1991 rape trial of William Kennedy Smith.(The Senator himself faced no charges in this trial.)

He represented the Cuban father of Elián González during the 2000 child custody dispute which ended when U.S. Marshals enforced court orders that the child be moved from the Florida home of relatives, where they had influenced the child to make a number of videos lashing out at his father. (In other words, he was Fidel Castro's lawyer.)

Craig represented United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan during the Volker Commission’s investigations in 2004 into the scandals involving the oil-for-food programme.

Recently, he represented Pedro Miguel González Pinzón, a Panamanian legislator wanted in the US for the murder in 1992 of a US soldier, and the attempted murder of another.

Replacing Craig as the White House's Chief Legal Counsel is reported to be Robert Bauer, HUSBAND to outgoing White House Communication Director Anita Dunn.

Robert Bauer, Chair of the Political Law Group of Perkins Coie, handled most of the lawsuits for Obama and the DNC during the 2008 campaign.

Anita Dunn: MSNBC 'different' from Fox News (Yeah... FOX News has viewers) Washington Times

Anita Dunn, the outgoing White House communications director who started the White House "war" on Fox News for having a conservative bias, on Friday defended MSNBC from the criticism that it is equally biased toward liberal politics.

Here's the most telling part from her interview with Al Hunt...

HUNT: Was that just Anita Dunn talking, or was that something you and Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod planned ahead of time?

DUNN: Well, you know, Al, I am not exactly one known for going rogue, to use a popular phrase these days

She's admitting that it was Rahm and Axelrod, and therefor Obama himself that ordered her to say what she said, irrespective if she believes it herself, or not.

KSM: "I Beheaded Reporter Daniel Pearl" (2007 ABC)

"I decapitated with blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi, Pakistan," Mohammed said in a written declaration submitted to a military tribunal at Guantanamo last weekend.

"For those who would like to confirm, there are pictures of me on the Iternet holding his head," KSM said in his statement.

US officials had told ABC News that identifying marks on the hand of the masked man holding Pearl's head matched those of KSM.

KSM collects his first virgin (Barack Obama)Dailymail.com

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed collected the first of his 72 virgins: Barack Obama.

This child — this spoiled brat who has been handed everything — who has never held a job — who has been told all his life how wonderful he is — who accepts no responsibility at all for anything — who blames others for all his problems — whose only accomplishment in life is not being George Bush — got rolled.

KSM Hits Manhattan—Again (WSJ)

Eric Holder's decision to move a trial on war crimes to American soil is morally confused, dangerous and political to a fault.

Coming soon to a civilian courtroom blocks from Ground Zero:

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the four other al Qaeda planners of 9/11. Be sure to get your tickets early, and don't forget to watch out for the truck-bomb barricades and rooftop snipers.

Attorney General Eric Holder, who dropped this legal bomb on New York yesterday, called his decision to move their trial on war crimes from a military courtroom at Guantanamo Bay to American soil "the toughest" he has had to make.

Other words come to mind. For starters, intellectually and morally confused, dangerous and political to a fault.

O's terrible call: Will terrorists walk free? (NY Post)

Like many New Yorkers and members of the families of the nearly 3,000innocent Americans murdered on that horrific Tuesday morning eight years ago, I'm outraged and insulted by President Obama's decision to transfer Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the admitted mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, to New York City for trial in civilian federal court.

The decision will go down in history as one of the worst made by any US president. While it may be hailed by Europeans, the ACLU and the far-left-wing of the Democratic Party, the president's action actually threatens American lives and weakens US national security.

“If Khalid Sheikh Mohammed Is Acquitted, President Obama, Will You Release Him?” PATTERICO

That is a question President Obama will never answer.

If Obama were to answer yes, he would not be re-elected. The answer would haunt him and damage him irrevocably.

What if Obama were to answer no?

Allahpundit is convinced that, if Obama were somehow forced to answer the question, that’s what his answer would be — meaning that the trial would be a sham:

There’s no way they’re letting KSM go. It doesn’t matter what the verdict is or what the judge decides; for reasons of pure national and political survival, Obama and Holder will find a way to reimprison this scum if the trial somehow ends up in acquittal.

Which means this is actually the opposite of due process. It’s a stacked deck, right from the get go. So why even bother playing cards?

There is no good answer to the question, which is why they will never answer it. I told Jake Tapper tonight that he ought to ask it and he replied: “ive asked Gibbs that before; they refuse to say one way or another.” He linked this post, which has transcripts of Gibbs repeatedly ducking the identical question as to other terrorists:

October Deficit Kicks Off New Fiscal Year PATTERICO

The Obama Administration has kicked off the New (Fiscal) Year with a record monthly deficit:

“What better way to kick off Barack Obama’s first full budget year as President than with a deficit that exceeded the White House’s own projections as well as analysts’ expectations?

The federal government busted the budget worse than last October by $20 billion with a deficit of $176.36 billion for the month.

That used to be considered a decent deficit target … for an entire year.”

Happy New Year, suckers!

Remember how he promised during the campaign that every dollar of new spending would be “paid for” by offsets in spending reductions and closing corporate loopholes? Big fat lie.

Napolitano pronounces US border more secure now (AP)

The Obama administration has met many of the border security benchmarks Congress set in 2007 as a prerequisite to immigration reform and now it's time to change the law, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Friday.

Napolitano, designated by President Barack Obama to lead the administration's immigration reform efforts, said many members of Congress had said they could support immigration reform, but only after border security improved, Napolitano said.

"Fast forward to today, and many of the benchmarks these members of Congress set in 2007 have been met," she said in a speech to the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank.

DHS admits 90 percent of U.S. borders wide open, Americans remain at risk (900 miles of 9000 secure)Examiner

The Department of Homeland Security has just reported that only 894 miles of this country’s 8,607 miles of America’s land borders, are actually being protected.

The announcement came in the agency’s 2009 Performance Report.
While that admission is maddening, given the federal government’s recent history on border issues, it should come as a surprise to no one.

We have seen the Obama administration water-down the highly effective 287g program, covertly offer government funded healthcare to illegal aliens, and promise amnesty to illegal aliens.

Obama’s Marxist-Terrorist Family Friends Accuse Hillary of Appealing to White Supremacy During the Campaign

Dig it!… Obama’s radical friends are writing for the socialist papers now.

Barack Obama’s family friends Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn still feel no remorse for their terrorist acts.

The killer-kooks are back–
Barack Obama’s close family friends the Marxist terrorists Billy Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn claim that Hillary Clinton appealed to white supremacy during the campaign last year.

The couple wrote about the election in the latest edition of the Socialist Monthly Review.

Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign for the Democrat nomination deliberately appealed to white supremacy, fear and anxiety, charged longtime Barack Obama colleague and Weatherman terrorist William Ayers and wife, Bernardine Dohrn.

In a co-authored article in the socialist Monthly Review magazine, the two radicals argued last year’s national elections had “racist” undertones and that President Obama’s ascent to power can be used to “build a new society.”

“[Hillary] Clinton flagrantly appealed to white voters’ identity as ‘workers’ or ‘women’ – offering white people any reason to vote against Obama without saying he’s black – and followed the ancient and dismal road of racial discourse that appeals to white supremacy, fear and anxiety,” wrote Ayers and Dohrn.

The two referenced a New York Times opinion piece by feminist activist Gloria Steinem, “Women are Never Front-Runners,” written on the eve of the New Hampshire primary. Steinem argued the gender barrier had not yet been broken and asked, “Why is the sex barrier not taken as seriously as the racial one?”

Ayers and Dohrn charged Steinem had asserted a “superior victim status on the part of white, powerful women.”

Ayers and Dohrn haven’t changed a bit. They’re still radical marxists only today they are working in education.

Blame Obama for Sky-High Unemployment (FOX)

This wasn't supposed to happen. At the end of February, after the $787billion stimulus was approved, the Obama administration predicted that unemployment would average only 8.1 percent this year.

Indeed, in February the unemployment rate stood at 8.1 percent. Yet, unemployment now stands at 10.2 percent and keeps rising.

There is also another, wider unemployment measure seldom mentioned. When you count the unemployed who have become so discouraged that they have given up looking for work or have only accepted a part-time job, our country now has an unemployment rate that stands at a staggering 17.5 percent.

Confirming these other numbers, the Bureau of Labor Statistics Household Survey finds that 3.5 million jobs have been lost since February. And it is also worth noting that the nation's unemployment rate has also been rising much faster than in other countries.

On October 30, President Obama claimed that massive government spending programs had already created or saved 640,239 jobs.

The spin the administration is putting on this is that the 3.5 million jobs lost would have been 4.1 million without any government intervention.

Obama’s October Deficit LARGER Than Bush Deficit For ENTIRE YEAR of 2007 (GatewayPundit)

More Hope & Change–
Team Obama was off on their October budget predictions by nearly $20 billion.

The deficit for the first month of the 2010 fiscal year reached $176 billion. (It must be Bush’s fault, right?)

The Wall Street Journal reported:
The federal government kicked off fiscal year 2010 by posting its widest-ever October budget deficit, the Treasury Department said Thursday.

The $176.36 billion gap is more than $20 billion wider than the shortfall recorded in October 2008, driven up by lower tax receipts, stimulus-related revenue reductions and consistently high government outlays.

...The October deficit figure is wider than the Congressional Budget Office’s estimate for a $175billion deficit in the month and wider than the $165.9 billion expected by analysts surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires.

Obama tripled the national deficit his first year in office and he’s off to a record-setting start in fiscal year 2010.

Obama wants domestic spending cuts in next budget (HA!) Google

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration, mindful of public anxiety over the government's mushrooming debt, is shifting emphasis from big-spending policies to deficit reduction.

Domestic agencies have been told to brace for a spending freeze or cuts of up to 5 percent as part of a midterm election-year push to rein in record budget shortfalls.

Yet with the economy still in distress and unemployment pushing past 10 percent, prospects for making a dent in a trillion-dollar-plus annual deficit seem slight.

Obama wants to legalize 12 million illegals so ACORN can get them registered and bussed to the polls. With votes tight and independants rebelling against Obama policies, the Dems need all the illegal votes they can fabricate.
