"While the projections of most experts suggested 'Smooth' would fade from the national consciousness within its first year, the song has actually proved surprisingly resilient over time," noted musicologist Sidney Brown said of the No. 1 single's inexplicable staying power. "Though it seems not to have any musical or cultural relevance whatsoever, many people, myself included, find themselves humming the track's guitar lick at least once every other week." Charlie Crist keeps moving away from his support of President Barack Obama's stimulus package that the governor called "fantastic" and "remarkable" when lobbying for its passage.

Faced with an increasingly difficult primary challenge from former House Speaker Marco Rubio of West Miami, the governor now claims he didn't endorse the $787 billion economic stimulus that included a generous contribution for Florida.

"It seems to be the president's answer to almost every challenge that's facing our country is to spend more money," Crist said Thursday.

He commented in response to a question while on his way back to his office ... .

But on a national cable news show Wednesday night, Crist said he saw the stimulus more as Florida taxpayers' dollars coming back to the state and that he didn't endorse the Obama plan.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-63124846749633742472009-11-06T04:24:06.104-08:002009-11-06T04:24:06.104-08:00So much Obama damage control, that David Axelrod e...So much Obama damage control, that David Axelrod even talks to Fox News (LA Times)

Here's how desperate Obama administration spokesmen were Wednesday to fill the info void they'd created by hiding away during the previous night's bad news election returns:

David Axelrod, an ex-newspaper reporter but one of the lead Obama attackers against the Fox News Channel in recent weeks, actually granted an interview to the Fox News Channel. To Major Garrett.

Obama aides knew full well in advance that election night was not going to go well for them and the commentators would connect the dots back to Obama and VP Joe Biden because, well, that pair has been so actively campaigning and money-raising all over.

snip

It was an awful night for Democrats, losing two governorships plus some mayors' offices. The young people returned to form, which is to say, failed to show despite a gazillion e-mail urgings, and unhappy independents went to the Republican side, listing the economy as Job #1.

And, OMG, what does this bode for the 2010 midterm elections, now only 362 days away?

And for the crucial congressional healthcare vote, which seems to be postponed another week every other day?

So, today out trotted Axelrod and press secretary Robert Gibbs to say the same things over and over as damage control:

How could the election be about the president when he was not on any ballot?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-36565621374857359382009-11-06T04:23:07.894-08:002009-11-06T04:23:07.894-08:00Murdoch admits delay in introducing newspaper webs...Murdoch admits delay in introducing newspaper website charges (Gaurdian.UK)

Rupert Murdoch is finding it harder than expected to introduce charges for readers browsing his newspaper websites and may miss a target of next June for the introduction of so-called "pay walls".

Murdoch admitted last night that the schedule was slipping for the start of online charging at papers including the Sun, the Times, the New York Post and the Australian.

The initiative, which has divided the media industry, is an attempt to recalibrate the business model for struggling print media.

Three months ago, Murdoch announced that he intended to introduce website charges by the end of News Corporation's financial year, which runs to June next year.

Certain rivals, including the New York Times, are planning similar moves But others, including the Guardian, intend to remain free and pose a potential competitive threat.

When asked about his self-imposed deadline yesterday, Murdoch said: "I wouldn't promise that we're going to meet that date."
He declined to comment on the reasons for any delay except to say that he was talking to rival publishers including the Telegraph group in Britain. "It's a work in progress and there's a huge amount of work going on," Murdoch saidAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
