Most major-market newspapers have penetration rates of around 25-30%, and websites typically are not as strong as the print products (often only 20% of the reach). That a SLC TV station has that much of an advantage is either very impressive or an oddity (such as a church-owned station).

What would be more interesting to look at is how well the newspaper website does against its competitors in the market, not the total market share.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-76644925772165408962009-09-25T17:49:40.524-07:002009-09-25T17:49:40.524-07:00McClatchy successfully drove away readers with the...McClatchy successfully drove away readers with their biased paper.

Did they actually expect their insulted readers would bother to go to their new and improved biased website?

Even if it’s for free...for now.
Yes, they’re going to charge to visit their site that no one in Sacramento trusts or goes too?

Best of luck with that one!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-19402268892763751232009-09-25T15:50:32.191-07:002009-09-25T15:50:32.191-07:00So if internet is the future of newspapers....then...So if internet is the future of newspapers....then the future looks like....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-42769814198242049722009-09-25T15:42:47.375-07:002009-09-25T15:42:47.375-07:00Maybe Melanie Sill could have a man to man talk wi...Maybe Melanie Sill could have a man to man talk with the advertisers.

Of course they'll buy her "It's that darn economy" argument.

Won't they?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-66915531901042126332009-09-25T15:39:57.389-07:002009-09-25T15:39:57.389-07:00McClatchy would kill to keep this chart out of the...McClatchy would kill to keep this chart out of the hands of advertisers. Nobody in their ad-mind would make a buy and pay any good money for those crappy numbers. How in the hell did a TV station in Salt Lake City get 43 percent of the market?
