They're just words until you do the math.

The cost of the printing plant is pure debt which came in at 289 million dollars despite the number shuffle they did later. The KC Star carries a value of between 15 and 20 million dollars at most. The Star-Tribune carried a price tag in excess of one billion and was sold for 500 million, a figure that would effect their debt. The KC Star sold at this time could bring no where near enough money to enhance the cash position in any meaningful way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-7734555875741758752009-02-16T12:13:00.000-08:002009-02-16T12:13:00.000-08:00Nobody said they were going to pay 270 million. Now, you find someone in McClatchy that would separate the company and absorb the debt. You're talking foolishness to even think it.

The only way the Star will be separated from McClatchy debt is if it is in liquidation. Otherwise, forget it. No one in their right mind is going to pay 270 million for a 3 million per year return.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4726844761468242273.post-61609316002106497552009-02-16T12:02:00.000-08:002009-02-16T12:02:00.000-08:0011:38 You don't know what the balance sheet for th...11:38 You don't know what the balance sheet for the Star is. Just because they can juggle the books with a little creative accounting to show that they are bringing in more that their material expenses does not make you a profitable company.
As far as anyone buying it, there is only one company in this country that even has a use for it with the glass albatross hanging over it's head. Even they would not be interested in paying 270 million for a 15 million dollar company to get the printing facility.
You're living in la la land my friend.
