More on the Bee Guild negotiations...

I'm a little late with this update...

Last week the Bee Guild posted a summary of their negotiations with management.

The biggest  sticking points: management wants to reduce severange pay from 40 weeks to 26 weeks -- which would make it $10,000 to $20,000 cheaper to lay off veteran workers.  Management also wants to make it easier to reduce some workers to part-time, and, hire freelance writers.

    Expect stalemate after stalemate (for years, if necessary) until the employees finally break and de-certify. That's what McClatchy did to us when they moved in.

    And we're all the poorer for it now.

    Who pays for the Vizcaya hotel conference room ? That place is not cheap.

    They should use the Bee cafeteria. It was shutdown a year ago so there's plenty of space and privacy.

    Management insists on meeting off site. Don't know why. Don't know why Vizcaya. Lots of places would be cheaper.
