Mullen: al-Maliki showed courage by going into Basra

Speaking to a group of soldiers and airmen at Pope Air Force Base, Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the recent spike in violence in Basra shows there are still tough days ahead in Iraq. Mullen had praise for al-Maliki's decision to go into Basra.
“I think what happened in respect to Basra, where the prime minister is taking some significant steps, internal to his sovereign country, with his own forces – have been positive,” Mullen said to the troops. “This is their country, and taking steps in this direction is positive.
