Tipster: some McClatchy papers will announce layoffs soon

A tipster emailed me to report some of the smaller McClatchy newspapers in the west will announce layoffs sooner than the 2-3 weeks out we are hearing about at the Modesto Bee and Sacramento Bee. The tipster says the cuts could be "big" -- but exact numbers aren't known yet.

Some of the papers, which are better managed and have staff that performing at a higher level, are still making a profit. Some other papers have made poor decisions and are not making a profit.

It only seems fair to take the profits from those that are working hard and are successful and redistribute it to those that are not doing well.

Why penalize the ones that can get it done. Let them keep there jobs. Paying good wages and bonuses for barely mediocre work is a lot of what is wrong all over this land.

The McClatchy Co. (NYSE: MNI) theme song.

Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay,
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
I'm not half the MNI I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

You are so right. The Obama plan is that everyone will be equally poor. Of course that does not include the ruling class. They will all be Democrats, that don’t have to pay taxes like the little folks do, or go the jail.

So you don't own a television and you did not watch the address to congress...

The plan is to make the rich pay taxes for once in their miserable lives and stop taxing people who can't even make ends meet. Sounds to me like Obama has a legitimate plan.

I feel for you blue blooded republitards who might have to choose between building that new yacht or paying your fair share. It's really a sad day for you.

FWST was a GREAT paper until IDIOT WORTEL and DICK WITT ruined it. I find it hard to be motivated and come to work with a good attitude when these kind of people are running the company.

I would hope this isn't so--

There is truth but a little bravado in this as far a MNI is concerned.

The previous two week reporting interval did show an increase in short interest as I had pointed out at the time. But, today's report actually shows a slight decline to 16,291,077 from over 17,000,000 shares.

That % of the float however is absolutely damning news as what it means is that almost 30% of all MNI shares are being held for the purpose of cashing in on MNI decline.

As of today's report, if every single share MNI trades where to cover shorts, it would take 40.3725 days to completely clear their books. Ewwww!

Correction. Correct number of shares currently short is 16,921,077. The change was very slight.

The people you are talking about don’t pay taxes. Where do you get your information? Oh right, McClatchy! The rebate these non-taxpayers get is yet another welfare handout. I feel sorry for you, unless you have scammed the system yet again, and get your welfare money.

Close down the newspaper while we think this over for a couple of weeks. That doesn’t inspire confidence.

-Oak Cliff Tribune Stops The Presses-
The Oak Cliff Tribune has stopped printing while its publisher tries to figure out how the 105-year-old newspaper can survive in the 21st century.

“We made a decision to step back and think about the future of the Tribune, Housewright said Monday. “We’ll certainly be making some decisions within the next couple of weeks.”

[As of Monday, two key members of the Tribune’s staff were still in the dark.]
Literally left in the dark!

I have it! The solution! Use those presses and start printing money. Just print as much as you want. Home free.

Well, at least that is what the government is going to do.

Did you know that legally, they could print their own money and actually use it as legal tender.

The only problem is the same as they have with their stock right now. Convincing someone that it has value and to accept it.

Wow, how much money do you make that being republican has a payoff?

Republicans don't think like you. They are not looking for a handout. (payoff)

What about the Wall Street banks and car companies who got billions in taxpayer dollars?
Didn't a Republican president bail out Wall Street?
What about the huge tax breaks for oil companies and mining companies? The royalty that mining companies pay the federal government for mining on federal land haven't increased in more than 100 years.
I guess socialism and handouts are in the eye of the beholder.
