Obama's Healthcare Credibility 'Shot,' Critics Say
NewsMax
David A. Patten

Pundits are warning that a fact-challenged President Barack Obama is hurting his own credibility and further confusing the healthcare debate, after yet another litany of misstatements and dubious assertions during Friday's town hall meeting in Belgrade, Mont. Obama continues to portray himself as a myth-buster keeping the healthcare debate honest. Yet he repeated several of the same inaccuracies that various sources corrected him on after his town hall meeting Tuesday in New Hampshire. After that event, the AARP issued a statement refuting Obama's claim the organization had endorsed his healthcare reform plan. The AARP has not endorsed any healthcare reform...

We could have guessed Bozeman was a college town, and just the place for Barry to choose for another staged town hall meeting. College towns have become nothing but Marxist colonies full of liberal nutjobs.

'Obama's Montana town hall
not quite the 'Wild West'

Washington Examiner
By Charlie Spiering

Barack Obama's town hall in the Bozeman, Montana area is not as 'bold' of a trip into the Wild West as described by Politico's Carole E. Lee this morning. Bozeman, Montana is a college town with many resident yuppies and is a home for multi-millionaires looking to buy their own piece of the West. (Snip) Gallatin county was blue enough to support Barack Obama in the 2008 election….

Obama Enthusiasts Fail to Back Obamacare (American Spectator)

It's a lot easier to campaign against the incompetent, big-spending, war-mongering Republicans than to convince the American people that they would be better off if the post office provided their health care. At least, that appears to be the lesson of the current health care battle.

Reports the New York Times:

At her home on Tom Sawyer Road here the other night, Bonnie Adkins agreed to begin spreading the word that President Obama's embattled health care plan needed help.

Ms. Adkins, who for the past two years devoted hundreds of hours helping Mr. Obama get to the White House, hosted a potluck supper that was advertised to Democrats in this eastern Iowa town along the Mississippi River. People were invited to bring a favorite salad or dessert - and their cellphones -to make calls drumming up support for the president's agenda.

She wondered whether her house would hold everyone, but there was no reason for worry.

"We had 10 people. Not a huge number, but good," said Ms. Adkins, 55, who has been an Obama volunteer since the first day she saw him during a stop here on March 11, 2007. "The enthusiasm is not there like it was a year ago. Most people, when they get to Nov. 5, put their political hat away and it doesn't come out for three years."

The socialists are denying there is such a thing as death panels, but we already have them. Terri Schiavo was starved to death. Now that is an inconvenient truth. I wonder if Ted Kennedy is being starved to death. Perhaps a real journalist might ask that question.

Obama Insists He's Honest Despite Softball Questions (Townhall.com)

Obama’s “town hall” meeting in Montana was filled with lengthy cheers and softball questions, despite the administration’s vows that questions would not be pre-determined and that tickets would be handed out on a first-come first-serve basis.

“We haven’t pre-selected anybody,” Obama said when starting the Q&A session after a lengthy address that highlighted his views on health care legislation

Yet, five of the seven questions taken included compliments for the President. “Welcome, and thank you, and I believe in reform as well,” said one participant when addressing the President. “Thank you – I’m someone who had a job as the result of your stimulus program,” said another. Towards the end of the session, Obama actually had to solicit a question that voiced more dissent – ostensibly so the event could appear more legitimate.

Health debate fails to ignite Obama’s Web (New York Times)

From Family Planning to Death Planning ( Baby-Boomers are next in line for euthanasia)

It’s time to kiss grandma goodbye. Do it while you can, especially if she is sick. I am not being facetious here. The healthcare debate is deadly serious for seniors and those who will need a greater amount of health care in the coming years.

People approaching retirement age will be obliged to start planning for death soon, and the government is more than ready to help them.

According to this wicked bill, HR 3200, there are generous provisions setting the stage to weed out the weak, infirm and unfit and make room for the fit, all at the government’s discretion.

The list of chilling dictates that will affect all seniors and ill persons is just frightening [see sidebar for references]. I note just a few relevant provisions from the 1018-page document:

Page 29 : health care will be rationed by government regulators;

Pages 30 and 42 : government committees will be set up to decide what health care we can and can’t have - a "Health Choices Commissioner" (Commissar?) will be in charge of these decisions;

Page 239 : the government will limit and reduce physician services for Medicaid which means that the dependent elderly and those most unable to access other services will suffer;

Page 341 : the government will be able to disqualify Medicare Part B and HMOs if they don’t get with the program, which means that they can effectively put them out of business as competition; and no one will be able to sue the government for a de facto monopoly on health care or for price-fixing (p. 124);

Pages 425-430 : "end-of-life" counseling and courses will be obligatory in this heinous bill-by the way, the Hemlock Society (now euphemistically called Compassion and Choices) has admitted to working with members of congress on this section of the bill;

Page 429 : nurse practitioners and physicians’ assistants can have authority to write end-of-life orders.

An appropriate name for this would be the “American Auschwitz Bill”

Isn't it interesting that the far-right bashers of the "liberal media" are quoting the New York Times when it likes what is being reported about Obama. Tomorrow, of course, they will be back to the same old tired allegation that the "liberal" New York Times is in the tank for Obama.

Notable & Quotable[:] President Obama on end-of-life care. (WSJ)

President Barack Obama, in an interview with columnist David Leonhardt in the April 14 New York Times magazine:

The President: Now, I actually think that the tougher issue around medical care—it's a related one—is what you do around things like end-of-life care.

Mr. Leonhardt: Yes, where it's $20,000 for an extra week of life.

The President: Exactly. And I just recently went through this. I mean, I've told this story, maybe not publicly, but when my grandmother got very ill during the campaign, she got cancer; it was determined to be terminal. And about two or three weeks after her diagnosis she fell, broke her hip. It was determined that she might have had a mild stroke, which is what had precipitated the fall.

I think the media is hiding the fact that Ted Kennedy is becoming a total veggie. He will be allowed to vote on health care by absentee ACORN ballot no doubt. The whole Kennedy family is a joke. Why wouldn’t they back killing off old people? They have voted to kill unborn babies for decades. They think it is their right to decide who’s life is worth saving. Teddy the swimmer, tipped his hand on that, didn’t he? They are reprehensible people that say one thing, but do another.
How can any of them be Catholic?
They are CINO.

No reasonable person can doubt that the NYT has been in the tank for Obama...surely you are not dumb and isolated enough to argue that the NYT is some model for credibility and fairness.

When EVEN the NYT is quoted pointing out the Obama's problems he is truly in deep trouble.

It's not a sign of credibility for the times but of desperate times for Obama.

The AARP has not endorsed any healthcare reform proposal.

It has endorsed Obama's initiative to reduce the cost of prescription medications. An AARP spokesman told Newsmax on Friday that the organization has no complaints about Obama's characterization in Montana of its positions.

On other topics, Obama did not fare as well, however. His strategy of reiterating talking points that already had been debunked or challenged drew heat from analysts who fault tactics they say are long on presidential charisma but sometimes short on credibility.

Axelrod's Crazy 8s (IBD Exclusive Series: Government-Run Healthcare: A Prescription For Failure)
IBD Editorials

Health Care: After a presidential "town hall" with few, if any, critics present to question false claims, the top White House political strategist provided an odd follow-up: an e-mail to everyone promising everything.
----------------------------------
There may never have been anything quite like David Axelrod's Thursday mass e-mailing.
"Dear Friend," the senior adviser to the president began a correspondence that multitudes of Americans apparently received unsolicited. Three sentences later, Axelrod complained about "the viral e-mails that fly unchecked and under the radar, spreading all sorts of lies and distortions." His idea for combating such outrages: "Let's start a chain e-mail of our own."

Fox News White House correspondent Major Garrett couldn't get an answer from White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs about how and why Americans with no connection to the Obama campaign, and who were unregistered with the White House Web site, were getting e-mails from the president's top political operative.

The unwelcome "Ax-Mail" is sure to fan fears that the White House has been collecting citizens' e-mail addresses en masse. But there should be a bigger concern for proponents of ObamaCare: people actually reading Axelrod's bizarre missive.

The Chicago political consultant must have done well lately playing the number 8 on the roulette wheel. His e-mail consists of "8 ways" ObamaCare helps everybody, "8common myths" and "8 reasons" to enact it into law immediately.

On Friday, O'Donnell, who was sitting in for Chris Matthews on "Hardball," tried the same tactic with Rep. John Culberson (R-Tex.), but this time his guest struck back and struck back hard

Obama's Mad Science Advisor
(Washington Times)

When it comes to having past views that should frighten every American citizen, Ezekiel Emanuel (see above editorial) has nothing on the president's "chief science adviser," John P. Holdren.

The combination of Mr. Holdren with Dr. Emanuel should make the public seriously concerned with this administration's moral compass concerning care for the old and weak.

-SNIP-

.....Mr. Holdren wrote: "Indeed, it has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society."

-SNIP-

The Holdren-Erlich book also promotes "Adding a sterilant to drinking water or staple foods." After noting that, well, yes, there were "very difficult political, legal and social questions, to say nothing of the technical problems," Mr. Holdren and his co-authors express hope that their idea may still be viable. "To be acceptable, such a substance would have to meet some rather stiff requirements," they wrote.

-SNIP-

Most Americans can be forgiven for thinking that mass sterilization through drinking water is never acceptable and that someone who supported such horrors should have no place on a prestigious White House council. The question naturally arises why President Obama chooses to surround himself with extremists like Mr. Holdren or Dr. Emanuel.

No matter how much they claim their views have "evolved," health and science under Obamacare would be a frightening prospect with people like this advising the president.

New York Times Refuses to Review Conservative Books (Top sellers on its own list totally ignored)
(Human Events)

The New York Times is generally loathe to dignify conservative-leaning books with an official review.

That stance is getting dicier these days, especially since the newspaper’s own nonfiction bestseller chart is chockablock with conservatives luminaries like Michelle Malkin, Dick Morris and Mark Levin.

President Barack Obama has only been in office for roughly eight months, but he’s already inspired multiple conservative bestsellers.

Malkin’s Culture of Corruption sits atop the list, followed by Levin’s Liberty and Tyranny in the two slot and Catastrophe by Morris and Eileen McGann at number four.

Marji Ross, president and publisher of Regnery Publishing, isn’t surprised by the newspaper’s stance against these like-minded books.

“Very rarely do they review conservative books,” Ross says. “What they sometimes do is mention a book that is conservative on their “Inside the List” feature. It’s a way to defend themselves against the accusation they ignore these books.”

The New York Times did see fit to print reviews of major liberal books from Michael Moore (Dude, Where's My Country?), Eric Alterman (What Liberal Media?) and Al Franken (Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them) but has yet to examine the aforementioned right-leaning bestsellers.

If the New York Times isn’t publishing reviews on conservative books I certainly wouldn’t know it because I do not read the New York Times.

"Sensitive" Oil Industry Memo Lays Out Plan For Astroturf Rallies Against Climate Change Bill

A leaked memo sent by an oil industry group reveals a plan to create astroturf rallies at which industry employees posing as "citizens" will urge Congress to oppose climate change legislation.

The memo -- sent by the American Petroleum Institute and obtained by Greenpeace, which sent it to reporters -- urges oil companies to recruit their employees for events that will "put a human face on the impacts of unsound energy policy," and will urge senators to "avoid the mistakes embodied in the House climate bill."

API tells TPMmuckraker that the campaign is being funded by a coalition of corporate and conservative groups that includes the anti-health-care-reform group 60 Plus, FreedomWorks, and Grover Norquist's Americans For Tax Reform.

The memo, signed by API president Jack Gerard, asks recipients to give API "the name of one central coordinator for your company's involvement in the rallies."

And it warns: "Please treat this information as sensitive ... we don't want critics to know our game plan."

Aside from the astroturf nature of the planned events, which appear aimed at passing off industry employees as independent citizens, the memo also raises questions about the positions of several major oil companies on the issue of climate change. BP and Shell both are members of API, and also of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a coalition of groups that supports Waxman-Markey, the very climate change legislation the memo criticizes.

API has spent over $3 million lobbying against that bill this year.

Bill Bush, a spokesman for API, told TPMmuckraker that there's no deception involved with the rallies. "I don't think anyone's hiding the ball about this," he said. "I don't think anyone's trying to suggest that this doesn't have anything to do with the oil and gas industry."

Cowardly NYC Dem Phones It In (Jamie Wearing)

You would think a guy who represents the Upper West Side of Manhattan wouldn't be afraid to face his constituents when it comes to discussing ObamaCare.

Think again. Rotund Representative Jerrold Nadler apparently fears the Birkenstock brigade that populates his district may not be down with socialized medicine.

If you've lost the Upper West Side, then things aren't quite going according to plan.
New York Rep. Jerrold Nadler is having his first health-care town-hall forum on Monday night -- it just won't be with any actual people in the room.

The Democratic congressman will hold a "telephone town hall," where Manhattan and Brooklyn constituents who have been calling his district office to talk about health-care reform will get return calls.

The method allows Nadler to hold a forum without potentially encountering the protesters who have spoken out at other health-care reform events around the country.

Profiles in courage. I bet if some folks said they were bringing doughnuts Nadler would gladly have them come to his office.

Golden Parachute for NPR Executive? Try $1.3 Million
(NewsBusters)

Remember the outrage earlier this year for some of the bonuses paid out to executives of financial institutions that were TARP recipient?

Or how about the press coverage that spurred on populist outrage when it was reported former Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain spent $35,000 on a commode to redecorate his office?

Turns out Thain walked away with a $1.5 million "golden parachute" after he resigned from Merrill, which was acquired by Bank of America (NYSE:BAC).

But you would never guess who got a golden parachute that was pretty close to what Thain got. According to an Aug. 14 report on the Chronicle of Philanthropy web site, former National Public Radio chief executive Ken Stern, who was replaced in March 2008, took a $1.3-million buyout, which has gone almost unnoticed.

Saving precious resources is paramount here, but no one discusses the ten minutes of precious water you have to use clean your hands after the use of the designer, narrow ribbon, toilet paper. Obama Says Insurers Are Trying to Block Change -NYT-

This morning's SACBEE, and I expect other McClatchy rags, carried a front page article by Margaret Talev headlined “Who’s behind attacks on overhaul of health care?”

Isn’t it odd that the opposition to the health care proposal is an “attack”. How clever. It would never be considered just plain “opposition” or “opponents” or “differences of opinion” or “discussions against” etc. We can count on her and the McClatchy “Wonders” to call it an “attack”. Nothing else would fit their agenda.

I certainly appreciated the "balance" to the article. It was interesting to find not a mere mention in her article that George Soros started up a group funded with $5,000,000.00 to “attack" for the bill. Was interesting I couldn't find that information in her article. Also interesting to find out some $150,000,000.00 in ads by groups like AARP, and AMA are being spent to support the bill. How nicely she got that major information in one tiny paragraph, but she needed about a half page to “uncover” those dastardly populist sounding name catchy “attack” groups. How clever.

I am certain her next article in a few days will be about all those groups and individuals who are “shilling” FOR the bill. I will await her article. I know we will get lots of nasty details regarding George Soros and how he owns the Democratic Party and this man child president. I know she will list all the organizations that Soros funds for the Democrats because she is a fair and balanced reporter, as is the same for McClatchy papers.

I won’t hold my breath.
