Thousands Quit AARP
Over Health Reform
CBS News, by Sharyl Attkisson
CBS News has learned that up to 60,000 people have cancelled their AARP memberships since July 1, angered over the group's position on health care...
"I don't wanna be connected with AARP."
"Many are switching to the American Seniors Association, a group that calls itself the conservative alternative."
One could say their very lives depend on a 'Change'!
Obama Joker Artist Not a Right Winger, But a Kucinich Supporter
Call off the race baiters. The Joker artist is a Palestinian-American Dennis Kucinich supporter.
Firas Alkhateeb, a senior history major at the University of Illinois, aligns with the Democrats on foreign policy, while he prefers Republican ideals on domestic issues.
He doesn't think Obama is really doing much good for the country right now. The LA Times Blogs has the story.
So does the Democrat-media complex still think the posters are racist now?
What’s McClatchy going to do, especially their international unit?
Palestinians are off limits to the press to exploit. And heaven forbid if he’s a muslim.
Time for McClatchy to spin this sucker and blame the jooooosss
"I am a democrat and I live in Illinois."
"I like Dennis Kucinich (D - OH). But, he lost in ’04 and didn’t cut it in ’08."
"He is an idiot and I don’t think he is doing anything good for the country right now."
"I am an artist. I just paint what I see. I see 0bama as The Joker. He’s always cheating, lying, and laughing about it."
"No, I don’t have a limousine. But, if I had limo I trade it in for “Cash for Clunkers” and buy a Toyota. 0bama should do the same."
"Now that 0bama has taken down his Flag and Snitch Site I can speak freely."
Coming to a neighborhood near you: Burn your AARP card meetings.
The media loves to follow stories about Patriots taking charge of the discussion, and making a difference.
Just joking, the media will not mention that groups are meeting to slash and burn AARP cards. About that membership list? Let’s ask AARP how old their list is, it might be really old, and never purged of inactive members! The hammer they use of millions of member, might be a farce?
Maybe Fox News will ask the question?
Obama Joker artist unmasked: A fellow Chicagoan (LA Times Blogs)
Nope, it turns out, just a 20-year-old college student from Chicago.
Bored during his winter school break, Firas Alkhateeb, a senior history major at the University of Illinois, crafted the picture of Obama with the recognizable clown makeup using Adobe's Photoshop software.
Obama pulls another plug -
He will be known as the
‘Dud & Plug’ president.
The left would have loved it to have been a white redneck from Texas or Alabama.
But now they are stuck between two victim groups.
Maybe Obama should invite him over to the White House for a beer.

In the movie, no one knows who the Joker is. No ID, no history, no record, no real name. It’s almost as if he appeared out of nowhere to bring an unholy chaos to Gotham.
Obama is similar because how much do we really know about him? So much is hidden, and like the Joker always makes up new stories about his past to explain his actions and make his personal narrative more interesting.
Palin's 'Ism' Factor
Try this on for size: Palinism. What is it? It is an updated version of McCarthyism, which takes it name from the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy, the Wisconsin liar, demagogue and drunk, and means, according to Wikipedia, "reckless, unsubstantiated accusations, as well as demagogic attacks on the character or patriotism of political adversaries." As far as we know, Sarah Palin is not a drunk.
But she certainly shares McCarthy's other attributes -- and this one as well: the ability to drive the debate. In McCarthy's day, it was anti-communism coupled with national security, and it hardly mattered that he frequently did not have his facts straight. He got huge amounts of attention anyway.
With Palin, the subject is health care, which in many ways is the Red Menace of our day and lends itself to a kind of political pornography. For sheer disregard of the facts, her statement about President Obama's "death panel" has to rank with McCarthy's announcement that "I have here in my hand a list of 205" (or 57 or 72 or whatever) names of communists in the State Department. They were both false -- McCarthy's by commission, Palin's probably by omission. She rarely knows her facts.
What was most depressing about McCarthy's career was not just the excesses of the man himself, but the refusal of others -- mainly his fellow Republicans -- to either rein him in or defend his victims. Now we are seeing something similar with Palin. Say what you will about any of the health care proposals, not one of them suggests a "death panel" empowered to withhold medical services from the aged or the disabled. To suggest that one exists is reprehensible. To state it outright is either boldly demagogic or just plain loopy.
The Washington Post
Anon 5:04 Spot on 60,000 people is a lot. Plus, with no links to quit on thier DNC web site, they sure don't make it easy to quit either.
Thousands Quit AARP Over Health Reform
CBS News has learned that up to 60,000 people have cancelled their AARP memberships since July 1, angered over the group's position on health care.
Elaine Guardiani has been with AARP for 14 years, and said, "I'm extremely disappointed in AARP."
Retired nurse Dale Anderson has 12 years with AARP and said, "I don't wanna be connected with AARP."
Many are switching to the American Seniors Association, a group that calls itself the conservative alternative as CBS News Investigative Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports.
Last week alone, they added more than 5,000 new members. Our camera was there Friday when the mail came.
Letters were filled with cut-up AARP cards.
"Maybe you are better off not having the surgery, but taking, uh, the pain killer."
-- President Barak Hussein Obama (June 24, 2009)
IF CBS News writes 60,000 people, I’m guessing it is twice that many. They are famous for their biased, and downright wrong crowd number projections.
“Dozens of Pink Code members” - “A few dozen anti-health care protesters” - “The pro and anti health care protesters were about even” when it was really one-sided for the anti group.
ACORN and the unions are busing members from state to state to fill out the crowds, but the media counts them as locals.
I don’t believe a thing they write.
Not all bitter, not all clingy: In defense of "whitey"
The headline of a recent USA Today article read: FEDS TRY TO DETECT 'LONE OFFENDERS.' Lone offenders being: "lone attackers who may be contemplating politically charged assaults."
That, of course, could be anyone.
But the triptych that went with the article was of Ted Kaczynski, Eric Rudolph and James Von Brunn. The not so subtle message: beware the evil white man. Clearly the mainstream media, which I know is evil because I read it in a blog, is at war with white males. Or as some -- not me -- would refer to them: "whitey."
Every time a white male governor secretly leaves the country for five days to be with his "soul mate," or some patriot shows up at a town hall meeting on health care reform packing a loaded gun the mainstream media flogs the pony. Simultaneously, they indict the dozens and dozens of white men who go to work when they're supposed to, try not to call the president a racist-Nazi-socialist-fascist-death paneler, and who can engage in the First Amendment without doing an open carry of the Second Amendment.
It's painful watching the ongoing, vicious denigration of "whitey"... and can I just tell you how much I hate that word? One of my best friends is a white guy. He's good people. A credit to his race. I had lunch with him once, and not only did he pick up the check, he tipped very well.
And once you get to know a white guy, you come to understand that the way some of them act; it's a cultural thing. White guys are and have always been a minority in America. Going back to the first population count in 1790 white men made up only 41 percent of the population. Now, they're less than 32 percent. And, as a minority, they've had a long history of oppression over the last six months. They're down to six of nine spots on the Supreme Court, 82 out of 100 Senators and a scant 79 percent of the CEOs of the Fortune 500 Companies.
How would you like to literally wake up one morning and face those kinds of losses to your hegemony? It makes for a sense of peril which does not fade just by watching a couple of episodes of Mad Men and getting nostalgic for the good old days.
And then all people ever want to do is blame white guys for everything. "You started the war in Iraq." "You ruined the economy." "You fired Paula Abdul from American Idol." Bitch, bitch, bitch.
Heck, if that were me getting continually hit up like that, I'd probably start demanding to see people's birth certificates and arresting them in their homes for no good reason, too.
Under the circumstances, we can't get any more mad at "whitey" -- and, seriously, I mean it: I never want to hear that word again -- for being the way he is than we can a bird for flying.
President Obama, when he was still Senator Obama, called it: "It's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
Instead of blaming white men for all that's wrong with America, let's try walking a mile in their frustrated, little shoes.

Score one for this site. Our troll 5:38 is here already. He probably stayed up all night to write his little snark. Just think how barren his life must be? He has to write his little rant on a conservative site. That says more about his sorry life than I care to know about him.
Although AARP claims to have over 35 million members, their numbers don't wash.
Looking at their 2008 financial report, they took in $249 million in membership dues, at an average of around $13 to $14 annual dues, that comes out to 17 to 19 million members.
So their claim is about twice the real number.
National Parks, the new "Racism"
America's only Black Ranger at Yosemite National Park says Blacks don't visit our national parks because the soil/land reminds them of racism.
This has to be the most absurd claim of racism and intimidation of Blacks I’ve heard yet–that America’s national parks are racist and that Blacks don’t visit because the dirt and the soil remind them of slavery.
Hilarious. Blacks have been farmers in America for centuries. But now, soil and dirt at parks reminds them of slavery?
An honest media would have been investigating ACORN before the election, but their incompetence and corruption kept that from happening. Now taxpayers are giving ACORN funds to continue their thuggery, and if you say anything, you are a racist. We are down the road to socialism already, IMO.

Citizens Consulting Inc. (CCI), the shadowy financial nerve center of the embattled radical activist group ACORN, has filed false lobbying disclosure reports with Congress, according to Ron Sykes, a former ACORN employee. "We believe the way the money has been moved around, they've been laundering money."
Why Obama's Ratings Are Sinking
Americans will put up with a lot. But not with someone who imperils their future
Public approval ratings of Barack Obama may be falling quickly right now—but his rating of the American public is probably falling even faster.
Oboob is a snake oil salesman? Bros, we knew that!
Finding no buyers for snake oil
by Wesley Pruden
Master politician that he is, Barack Obama is a lousy calculator. He spectacularly misjudged the American public's appetite for a government nanny. Or maybe he miscalculated the power of his slippery tongue to sell government snake oil. His apparent willingness to abandon the attempt - for now - to nationalize the health-care industry appears to defer the Democratic first step in remaking the home of the brave...
Obama promises Mexico we will overhaul immigration laws!
“..during a three-way summit with leaders from Mexico and Canada about a promised overhaul of U.S. immigration laws. "I've got a lot on my plate, and it's very important for us to sequence these big initiatives in a way where they don't all just crash at the same time,"

Obamateurism of the Day, “1 speech, 2 faces”

Greg Hengler at Townhall revisits Barack Obama’s greenhouse — you know, a town-hall forum full of plants — to notice yet another entry in his “1 speech, 2 faces” series. In this sequence, Barack Obama says that his ObamaCare legislation won’t get involved in treatment decisions between you and your doctor. Of course, at the same time, Obama wants to protect you from Tonsil Vultures and Foot Rustlers…
This was mentioned earlier -- Up to 60,000 Americans have canceled their AARP memberships due to anger over the group's apparent support of Obama Care. LINK

Obama, ACORN, and the SEIU? They Go Way Back
Pajama's Media ^ The Lid
In the mid 1990s, ACORN and the SEIU partnered with other leftist groups to help form the Marxist New Party, a political coalition. In 1995, Obama sought out their nomination. He was successful in obtaining that endorsement and used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers. The fact that Obama received the New Party’s endorsement in his first run for office cannot be dismissed as insignificant. On the contrary, Obama’s ties to the New Party and the New Party’s backers at ACORN and the SEIU are long-standing, substantial, and reveal a great deal about his personal political allegiances.
Interesting how no one wants to talk about the wackos that showed up with guns yesterday in Arizona. What a joke your party has become.

"Reality Check"? Obama pulls the plug on the White House snitch site, but the health care czar pumps out O-care on our dime? Michelle Malkin is all over it.
Internet Snitch Brigade disabled, but…Updated
By Michelle Malkin
So, it looks like the Internet Snitch Brigade has closed up shop — and you can no longer flag yourself at firstname.lastname@example.org.
But the health care czar’s office (background here) and Obama Chicago crony Valerie Jarrett’s staff (background here) are hard at work pumping out O-care propaganda — and still collecting e-mail addresses — at the government-funded website “Reality Check.”
It is time to force Barry to get rid of these czars. Has anyone calculated the salary and staff costs of these bootlickers? Talk about un-American; I don’t want any unelected czar having influence in our government. They are nothing but a bunch of socialist pinheads.
At some point, the corrupt media decided they would forgo honesty and integrity to elect enough liberals to usher socialism into the US. The horror of their plan is that they were into phase two with Obama. It is finally dawning on rational peopled that the chosen pawn for president had to be someone the socialists could program with ease. I am wondering if the media people will ever concede their compliance in this evil plan. Perhaps a few years without a job will convince them not to try again to fool

U.S. report: Chavez moving to silence media critics BUT WHEN DEAR LEADER DOES IT, IT'S NOT NEWS?
(CNN) -- The recent closure of 32 privately owned radio stations and a proposed law to punish "media crimes" are signs that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is moving to quash criticism of his government, according to a recent U.S. intelligence report.
Chavez's government is "moving forcefully to silence critics," said the unclassified U.S. analysis prepared by the Open Source Center, a U.S. government office that translates and analyzes reports from foreign news organizations.
Orlando Sentinel Live Blogs Stacked Deck 'Town Hall' Meeting
(NewsBusters) (95 of 120 seats for dems only)
Your humble correspondent has had problems with the Orlando Sentinel in the past, especially when it published a silly global warming alarmism story which presented various map scenarios of Florida being flooded over.
However, I must extend congratulations to that periodical for its excellent live blog coverage of a phony stacked deck "town hall" meeting conducted by Congressman Alan Grayson which could serve as a model for other newspapers on how to cover such events.
First a description of the event as covered in the regular way via Orlando Sentinel article:
Grayson's hastily called meeting took place in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union hall, which limited attendance to about 120 members of the public.
It also was scheduled just after a regular meeting of local Democrats, some of whom stayed behind for the town hall in the scarce seats.
Outside the building, hundreds of frustrated people who could not get inside waved signs and chanted for and against the proposals.
Obama Underwrites Offshore Drilling
You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.
The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil's Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil's planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.
The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a "preliminary commitment" letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount.

60 Minutes Chief: Dan Rather’s Work ‘Not Even Close to the Standards We Expect’ (Rich Noyes)
WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT DNC SHILL McCLATCHY'S "WORK"?
Sunday’s Los Angeles Times had an update on Dan Rather’s continuing lawsuit against CBS News over what Dan might call the “forged-memos-to-torpedo-Bush’s-re-election-in-2004 scandal.”
Rather scalded CBS with language he used to save exclusively for conservatives: “Their strategy is to string it out, wear me out, suck the will from me, and make it so painful on the pocketbook that I want to give up....But I don't think anybody who knows me would say that there's any give-up in me.”
But media writer Matea Gold said CBS had also “made available several executives who spoke acidly about the anchor whose work they once touted.”
60 Minutes executive producer Jeff Fager trashed Rather’s work as deficient:
“I hate to say it in public, but many of [his] stories were not even close to the standards we expect at 60 Minutes.”
Gold also said that Rather’s pursuit of CBS has brought to light the fact that the ex-Evening News anchor was turned down for jobs at: ABC, NBC, CNN, A&E, History, HBO, Discovery and National Geographic.
Turned down by ABC, NBC, CNN, A&E, History, HBO, Discovery and NatGeo?
That still leaves Nickelodeon and the Food Channel. I say go for it , Dan!

AARP has lost many more than "up to 60,000" members. By the way, how do you cancel these guys? They make it nearly impossible to get in contact with them??
Fox News should really dig into this AARP exodus and get that Obama-loving CEO on O'Reilly for a grilling. While CBS gets some props for running the AARP story, that network is another propaganda arm of the White House.

Doesn't sound like cowardice to me. Sounds very prudent, considering the threats.
They can all say they've gotten threats and cancel townhalls. These cowards don't want to face their voters. Their staffers probably called in bogus threats to derail the townhall.

Remember the Endangered Specie Act? It was suppose to save some animals from extinction, but environmentalists used it to save microscopic mud worms, and to stop road projects, or any other whim of their choice. Radical environmentalists could bring lawsuits that cost the government millions, and walk away from them without paying a dime, even though they lost.

Talking smack about America--Hillary equates U.S. democracy with Nigerian corruption (The Washington Times)
Our nation's top diplomat needs to learn that her job is to enhance the U.S. image abroad -- not muddy up America's reputation.
Last week, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton resurrected the 2000 presidential election controversy. On Wednesday, during an official visit, she mentioned the race in the context of Nigeria's turbulent electoral history.
"You know, we had some problems in some of our presidential elections," she said. "As you may remember, in 2000, our presidential election came down to one state where the brother of one of the men running for president was governor of the state. So we have our problems too."
Nigerian politicians must have been stunned and delighted when Mrs. Clinton granted moral equivalence between their corrupt political system and American democracy.
The 2000 vote in the United States was like a model from a civics textbook compared to Nigeria's last election.
I doubt the Big Marshmallow Gibbs will ever allow Garrett to ask another question. He even said, “Lets move on to a more constructive question.” Right Bro, when you get caught red-handed, hide behind a question about the weather.
Amish newspaper succeeds the old-fashioned way (Yahoo News)
SUGARCREEK, Ohio - The writers' grievances came in the form of angry letters, carried over bumpy rural roads to the newspaper office serving the Amish community.
In a world where news still travels at a mail carrier's pace, the farmers, preachers and mechanics responsible for filling The Budget threatened to go on strike if the 119-year-old Amish weekly went ahead with its plan to go online.
The writers, known as scribes, feared their plainspoken dispatches would become fodder for entertainment in the "English," or non-Amish, world. The editors hastily rescinded the plan shortly after proposing it in 2006, and today, only local news briefs appear on The Budget's bare-bones Web site.
"My gosh, they spoke in volume," said Keith Rathbun, publisher of The Budget, a newspaper mailed to nearly 20,000 subscribers across the U.S. and Canada. "I'd be a fool to not pay attention to it."
Far from impeding the newspaper's success, shunning the Internet actually solidified its steadfast fan base.

Judging by the escalating boos and catcalls, squirting lighter fluid on burning coals would have been wiser. Beck is a hero to many people who are not buying the Age of Obama, and so is Fox.
The network was already on pace for its best ratings year even before the health care debate sent viewership jumping during a traditionally slow month for news.
How emboldened is Fox? After President Barack Obama's press secretary Robert Gibbs warned against "cable news" derailing health care plans, Bill O'Reilly assumed he was referring to Fox and seemed ready for a fight.

Why Newsroom Layoffs Continue Despite Business Improvements
You have probably read that a number of newspaper companies returned to profitability in the second quarter of this year, and the economy at large may have hit bottom and started back up. Since July 1, newspaper shares have more than doubled from lows on Wall Street. So why does the pace of layoffs and buyouts continue unabated?
My tally of newspapers announcing or carrying out cuts so far in August includes The Kansas City Star, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, The News & Observer of Raleigh, The Journal News of New York's Westchester suburbs, The San Diego Union-Tribune and The Miami Herald.
That's disheartening. A number of once-proud, top-ranked regionals, three of them owned by McClatchy, are on the list. (I'M GETTING WEEPY)
Newspapers were still losing ad revenue at a 25 to 30 percent pace year-to-year in the second quarter. They managed small profits with very tight expense control. Third quarter ad revenues will be down 20 to 25 percent compared to the 2008 period, which itself was off 18.1 percent compared to third quarter 2007.
like McClatchy -- will continue to work the outsourcing and down-sizing option.
The Fresh Prince of D.C. is shovel ready...
Health Care: There might not be a "death panel," as Sarah Palin described it, but federal bureaucrats will be making end-of-life decisions. That's why state-run medicine is a leading cause of death in Britain and Canada.
A post on the former Alaska governor's Facebook page has caused a stir by discussing openly what many privately fear and something we have written about. End-of-life counseling and efforts to measure cost-effectiveness of treatment will combine in a perfect storm to ration care in a way that lets the government decide who lives and who dies.
"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society' whether they are worthy of health care," Palin wrote.
"Such a system is downright evil."
Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean's response was, "She made that up." Oregon resident Barbara Wagner might beg to differ — as she begs to stay alive. Last year, the 64-year-old received news that her cancer, which had been in remission, had returned. Her only hope was a life-extending drug that her doctor prescribed for her.
The problem was that the drug cost $4,000 a month. The state-run Oregon Health Plan said no, that it was not cost-effective. Oregon's equivalent of a "death panel" sent her a letter saying it would cover drugs for a physician-assisted death. Those drugs would cost only $50 or so. Oregon could afford that.

White House Garden Is Not Exactly Shovel-Ready
First Lady Michelle Obama pitched right in with shovel and pitchfork today at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new White House Kitchen Garden.
But the initial digging of the semi-prepared plot wasn’t easy. Neither Mrs. Obama, or the students made much headway.

'Washington Post' Hyperlocal Site to Shut Down (Editor and Publisher)
NEW YORK The Washington Post will shut down its lone attempt at hyperlocal Web site news coverage, according to PaidContent.org.
It reports that the Post's LoudounExtra, which covered Loudoun County, Va., for the past two years, will cease to exist as of September.
A Post spokesperson told the Loudoun Independent: "We found that our experiment with LoudounExtra.com as a separate site was NOT a sustainable model."
That report adds that the site's content will be moved to the main Post Web site.
"The site was launched in 2007, but failed to gain any traction, partly because the interactive execs who worked on the site and effort left soon after, resulting in no attention/promotion from the main site, and partly because WaPo's still struggling to define its way with its online strategy,"
PaidContent.org reported. "The other planned hyperlocal site Fairfaxextra.com never materialized."
GANNETT NEWS: Gannett to automate obituaries.
COULD THIS BE THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR McCLATCHY'S "SCREW THE DEAD" OBITUARY BUSINESS?
NO WONDER THEY LOVE "DEATHCARE." MORE BUSINESS!
Gannett is prepared to begin launching self-publishing obituary publishing at its newspapers.
According to a memo sent Monday from Annette Gould, Gannett's manager of advertising technology, and obtained from a source within the Interstate Group’s production arm, The Indianapolis Star will be the first site, with a scheduled transition for the week of Sept. 7.
Gannett has contracted Wave2 to provide the software. Customers will be directed to a Web site where they can select a template, fill in their individual information and submit the obituary. The program then takes the information, formats it and posts it to the newspaper’s host system. This change means funeral directors will have a new way to submit this information.
The first round of implementations includes 11 sites (one site simply lists "Wisconsin." Gannett has 10 newspapers in Wisconsin.). All of the sites listed are in Gannett's Interstate Group.
Give Gannett credit. They didn’t outsource it to India, or McClatchy’s Cuban Bureau.
They put it right back on the bereaved. Not a bad idea.
But now, they can’t justify $1,000 for you doing all the work.
Maybe they can take over McClatchy’s DeathCare “DeathNiche”

Double Standard: Lefty Media Now Targeting GOP Congresswoman's Son
Remember when the children of public figures were off-limits in the day-to-day hand-to-hand combat of political warfare?
It's a rule that didn't just applied to the underage children of politicians, but the adult children. Witness the 2008 suspension of MSNBC's David Shuster for suggesting then-presidential contender Hillary Clinton's 28-year-old daughter Chelsea Clinton was being "pimped out" by the campaign.
But maybe that rule only applied to Democrats. When it comes to liberal pundits attempting to score cheap points against conservatives, especially ones they loathe like Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn, all bets are off. In an Aug. 12 column, Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist Jon Tevlin, citing a hateful anti-Bachmann blog, decided it appropriate to beat up the two-term congresswoman using her son Harrison's decision to participate in the government program Teach for America (TFA). TFA is one of the programs under the AmeriCorps umbrella.
Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean's response was, "She made that up."
Actually Dean falsified what she had said and it was he that made up his response to words that she never even said.
Salon Lays Off Six In Pursuit of Becoming a 'True Web Publication'
Salon has laid off eight, six (6) editorial staffers—or 20% of its editorial staff—so that, in the words of CEO Richard Gingras, it can become "more of a true Web publication." Welcome to the internet, Salon!
In a statement to Gawker, Gingras confirmed that three editors, one writer, one photo editor, and one producer were laid off last week. The only name we've heard thus far is culture editor Joy Press; let us know if you have any other intelligence.
UPDATE: Here's the complete list: Jeanne Carstensen, managing editor Kevin Berger, features editor Katharine Mieszkowski, senior writer Joy Press, culture editor Caitlin Shamberg, multimedia editor Julie Coburn, photo editor
Gingras says the firings are pegged to an upcoming redesign and streamlining of the site's publishing system that will put Salon in a "good position to not just weather the economic storm but emerge much stronger than ever." Salon was launched in 1995, and has, to our knowledge, been an online publication for its entire life, which makes Gingras' determination to finally become a web site somewhat disconcerting: All these years, apparently, it's been a false web publication.
But Salon is the cockroach of the web, and has managed to survive all sorts of trials and tribulations and leadership changes to remain a valuable player—their publication of previously unseen photos of torture at Abu Ghraib and editor Joan Walsh's motherly smackdown of Bill O'Reilly were both public services—so we're confident that they'll manage. We just wish they didn't have to fire a bunch of people in order to become a web site.
Salon? Oh Yeah! I remember Salon. It used to be relevant, right?
Salon has laid off eight six editorial staffers—or 20% of its editorial staff, so it can become "more of a true Web publication."
And they are moving into their mom's basement?

ROFL! "Beat up" Bachmann? What he wrote was: "Harrison must be a smart kid, a caring kid. Must have been raised well."
Next time, check the original document instead of relying on what someone alleged that someone did.
‘Emperor Chimpatine’ will say anything to advance his socialistic agenda. Then he will ‘Change’ what he said when the ‘Little Folks’ won’t buy it. Who knows what he will try next? Honesty and integrity used to be American values. Our lame duck president, the Democrats, and their media minions have completely trashed our values.

“Impromptu Obamanomics is getting scarier by the day.”
Humorous stuff this:
-Obama Goes Postal, Lands in Dead-Letter Office -
Commentary by Caroline Baum
“UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.” -- Barack Obama, Aug. 11, 2009
No institution has been the butt of more government- inefficiency jokes than the U.S. Postal Service. Maybe the Department of Motor Vehicles
Impromptu Obamanomics is getting scarier by the day. For all the president’s touted intelligence, his un-teleprompted comments reveal a basic misunderstanding of capitalist principles.
The public is left with one of two unsettling conclusions: Either the president doesn’t understand the health-insurance reform plans working their way through Congress, or he understands both the plans and the implications and is being untruthful about the impact.
Neither option is good; ignorance is clearly preferable to the alternative.
David Axelrod's Very Big Problem
The allegations in this Bloomberg story --if true-- pose a huge problem for a senior advisor to the president, David Axelrod. This is the heart of the problem:
Axelrod was president and sole shareholder of AKPD from 1985 until he sold his interest after Obama’s victory, government records show. The firm owes Axelrod $2 million, which it’s due to pay in installments beginning Dec. 31. Axelrod’s son, Michael, still works there. He didn’t return a phone call. The firm’s Web site continues to feature David Axelrod’s work on the Obama campaign. (Emphasis added.)
The problem is that Axelrod's former firm is currently receiving huge fees "from Healthy Economy Now, a coalition that includes the Washington-based Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, known as PhRMA," as well as AARP, the SEIU and other big players in the health care debate.
If a Democrat won’t hold a town hall meeting, opposing candidates ought to be given the opportunity to hold a meeting to hear the people‘s questions. The meeting can be video taped for the cowards. Any politician that ops out of meeting their constituents ought to be run out of town on a rail. You can run, but you can’t hide forever. I have never seen worse politicians than I am witnessing now. How did someone like Pelosi become anything in the US government?
President's Coverage Promise Is No Keeper (WaPo is exposing ObamaCare Lies)
By David Hilzenrath
President Obama promises that, if health-care reform is enacted, people will be able to keep their current coverage. "I keep on saying this but somehow folks aren't listening: If you like your health-care plan, you keep your health-care plan. Nobody is going to force you to leave your health-care plan," he said Saturday in a town hall meeting in Grand Junction, Colo., much as he said Friday in Belgrade, Mont., and earlier in the week in Portsmouth, N.H. However, under legislation drafted by House and Senate Democrats, that would not necessarily be true. Legislation written by three House committees and...
Most everyone knows Obama is lying through his teeth about health care. The media can’t face it if course, after all, they have laid their jobs on the line for this fraud. The Bam is on overload in TV exposure already. People just turn him off, literally! More people watched a rerun than the Bam spin his smoke and mirrors bullshit. The networks loose money when he shuck & jives in prime time. Do they learn anything? Hell no, who needs these hopeless dinosaurs? Two more death panel members voting thumbs down with me, and we can euthanize the old has-been media. Unintentional consequences to the death care plan, they call that.
//That's why state-run medicine is a leading cause of death in Britain and Canada.//
Where on earth did you come up with this "fact"? And if true, why are Britain's and Canada's health statistics (including longevity) better than ours?
//Sweetheart// I remind you again to be consistent with your ///’s. Each slant has a different meaning, as you well know. My heart leapt for minute there, you naughty boy, you.

Liberals "Tired of Compromise" ...Ready to Ram Obamacare Down America's Throat
-- They created the Stimulus Bill behind closed doors and passed the bill without any Republican votes in the House.
-- They created the Cap & Tax Bill behind closed doors and passed the bill with 8 Republican votes in the House.
-- They created Obamacare behind closed doors, bussed in their Far Left supporters to town hall meetings and now they are ready to ram it down America's throat, too!
Analysis: Liberals tired of health care compromise
Frustrated liberals have a question for President Barack Obama and Democratic lawmakers: Isn't it time the other guys gave a little ground on health care?
What's the point of a bipartisan bill, they ask, if we're making all the concessions?
A case in point:
Sen. Charles Grassley, a key Republican negotiator on health care, was on a winning streak as Congress recessed for August, having wrung important concessions from Democrats, including an agreement not to tax employer-provided health insurance and a limit to demands on drug companies.
How did Grassley reciprocate? With an attack that struck Democrats as stunning and baseless. Grassley told an Iowa crowd he would not support a plan that "determines when you're going to pull the plug on Grandma."
The remark echoed conservative activists who wrongly claim a House health care bill would require Medicare recipients to discuss their end-of-life plans with doctors.
For liberals supporting far-reaching changes to the nation's health care system, it was another sign that months of negotiations have been a one-way street. It's time to move on without Republicans, they say.
On Tuesday, liberals were fuming over Obama's recent remarks suggesting he might also yield on the federally run insurance option he's been promoting.
Many saw it as a huge concession that could leave them with nothing more than watered-down insurance cooperatives.
Liberals "Tired of Compromise" ...Ready to Ram Obamacare Down America's Throat
It will be interesting to see if they do. I almost hope they attempt it. Democrats well be swept from power faster than they can say, "Mein Kampf"
What's left of their independents will vaporize overnight and they won't be back no matter what a leftist says.
