Former Kansas City Star reporter announces run for US Senate

Former Kansas City Star reporter Charles Schollenberger, 57, announced plans Thursday to run for the U.S. Senate. I know this will come as a total shock, but he is not a Republican.

He said he would advocate national health care and reforms in the financial system and favors a program granting amnesty for illegal immigrants already in the United States. He also said he was concerned about the ongoing debate over whether the United States should change its strategy in Afghanistan or send in additional troops.

Brief bio here, but you have to go down several paragraphs to find it.

John -- Schollenberger got no love from his former employer -- the Star buried Schollenberger's announcement deep into the obscure "News in Brief" column.
