More details on Modesto layoffs

I told you yesterday the Modesto Bee is laying off seven full-time employees. (To see the email from publisher Eric Johnston, click here.)

Turns out two of the employees being pink-slipped are in the newsroom. For more info on how the layoffs will break down, the Bee Guild has posted a letter from the Bee Guild unit chair here.

More layoffs at the N&O were announced this morning. Sales and managers will be given the opportunity for voluntary separations. Not known if other departments are impacted. Official packets to be handed out by day's end.

With two more sliced off the payroll in Modesto that leaves even fewer news bodies in an already understaffed newsroom. Are they figuring the Sac Bee can also write and edit for Modesto?

Copy/Paste/Insert Name, isn't exactly brain surgery.

Folks, your company isn't going to make it. Even when the economy improves. Get out now.

The rumor more than year ago that came out of Sac was that eventually both Modesto and Fresno would become satellite offices of Sac. Of course our editor dismissed the rumor since it came from the photo dept and we know photographers don't know crap about anything. Then again a few years ago she said there would never, ever be buyouts in McClatchy.
