A tipster tells me Star-Telegram employees received an email announcing a Monday meeting about benefits, which sparked rumors about pending benefit cuts.
At the S-T we received an e-mail announcing meetings on Monday with Aetna reps about "Significant changes to medical plan," specifically in co-pays, premiums and prescription drugs. Open enrollment period is usually in early November and McCrappy looks like it's getting ready to screw employees again. I think the S-T is self-insured but uses Aetna to process claims.

Dump all the medical plans and tell the true believers that Obama will take care of them.
Or, add bunches of more people to the existing plan and tell those same true believes that it will not cost more.
Ahhhhh, Darla's still up to her old tricks.
McClatchy is self-insured and all the newspapers have their benefits plans centralized with corporate except perhaps for some union plans.
And yes rates are sure to go up.
As long as those crazy conservatives stay in bed with Big Insurance costs are going to keep rising.
If you fear big insurance companies more than you do a big government then you are a fool and deserve what you get.
OK 1:28. Have fun paying for your heart transplant.
No, the question is am I willing to pay for your heart transplant. And the answer is no.
I have made choices that allow me to afford any degree of medical care I want. I have sacrificed and saved. I planed and protected my options. There has been no "luck" involved.
You either have done the same or you have not. If you have not, I choose not to subsidize your choices and bad judgment. It is as simple as that.
I am outraged that you want to use the power of government with the threat of force to make me pay for your inability to provide for your self.
1:52 I have only one thing to say to you.
AMEN!!!
As long as it's business as usual, the healthcare providers and insurance companies will have us by the short hairs.
Turning health care into a consumer-driven market (not a health care industry-driven market) is what needs to happen.
It is a consumer driven market. The employer that selects the insurance options available to employees makes it a point to select the least expensive options possible, unless the employer is a government agency, in which case they don't care about cost because it is not their money.
What will make it much more affordable is more control over frivolous law suits (trial lawyers own Democrats) and less government mandates that insurance companies have to provide.
Let them sell across state lines, let them compete for your business. Get the government and lawyers out of your health insurance and only cover people who actually pay for coverage.
Charlotte Observer buyouts announced today, that means ours are announced next week.
