Kansas City Star publisher says "no current plans" to charge for web content
This has been much ado about nothing. All the MNI papers added this passage to cover *possible* charges for some online content. It just got blown out of proportion.
3:02 it wasn't blown out of proportion. It's a perfect example of what happens in today's world of blogs and discussion boards. People who don't know what they're talking about talking about it any way.
No, it wasn't blown out of proportion. It is the same exact pattern that McClatchy always uses. They set the stage, deny they are going to do something, then a few months later, do exactly what they said they were not going to do.
This is a perfect example of what blogs do. People taking about things that bad companies like McClatchy do and can no longer cover up.
Great Job. Now it is just a matter of when they will try and spring it.
If newspapers had put any thought into some sort of plan to charge for their content years ago, they might not be in this mess now. (Hard to put the horses back in the barn.)
I find it funny that the allegedly "conservative" blowhards on this site seem to be vehemently opposed to the idea of a company making money from what it produces. (I bet you steal most of your music online, too.)
By the way ... I'm not saying *I* would pay for the content ... not anymore, anyway.
Maybe before they started laying off all the people who wrote and edited it. (And maybe if McClatchy hadn't turned all the Web sites into unnavigable pieces of crap.)
