Merced Sun-Star looking for a reporter

The Sun-Star is advertising for a reporter. Here is the announcement:

The Merced Sun-Star, a McClatchy daily and one of the best of its size in the country, is looking for an ambitious and talented reporter to join our award-winning newsroom. The city and county of Merced--located in the San Joaquin Valley and within a few hours of Yosemite, San Francisco and Monterey--comprise a red-hot news center in every way. Political scandal, growth, a new university, the environment--our reporters cover it all and are often rewarded with invitations to bigger newspapers throughout the McClatchy chain and elsewhere. The Sun-Star has won four national awards in the last year for its reporting and eight more in California. It's the smallest daily in America to have sent two correspondents to Iraq on two tours to cover the war. Salary is competitive for the area, benefits include health and 401(k), and there's a fierce commitment to online journalism. Our reporters even started their own AM-FM radio show on two local stations. If interested, please send a brief cover letter, resume and three writing samples to employment@modbee.com Deadline to apply: 12/1/09

Often get invitations to bigger papers in the McClatchy chain where they're fired after 6 months.
