Mandatory employee meetings with the new publisher are being held today in Biloxi while the paper is covering a tropical storm. Some employees believe more layoffs will be announced, just one week after the end of the furlough season.
Maybe it's nothing more than a meet and greet.
Update: a reader says there will be layoffs in advertising and production.

Layoffs in advertising and production.
Layoffs in advertising: Is this some new way to increase revenue that only McClatchy knows about?
Sounds like the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where online had layoffs just like everyone else. This despite Pru's repeated claim that McCrappy is becoming a hybrid company as it shifts toward a digital mode.
Cry in your tears all you McClatchy haters. KC Star has a 5 year contract to print The Wall Street Journal. I love it.
Printing someone else’s business publication because no one wants to buy your liberal, DNC talking points, is not a cause for celebration.
But if being forced from the news business to the printing business is cause for celebration, who am I to get it your way.
3:31 PM, I bet you are a blast at a party, do you normally blurt out random thoughts that pop into your head? WTF does that have to do with this Biloxi thread?
3:31. Great. Instead of a newspaper publisher the KC Star is now a printer. Translation, incapable of producing content that the public will pay for and advertisers will buy, the Star is now an outsourcer for Rupert Murdoch. Good job.
Breaking news: McClatchy phasing out local newspapers. Will soon only print other publications and be known as McClatchy Printing, Inc. See us for all your printing needs!
There is an open thread on this blog every day. Only a rude moron would keep hijacking a thread to make a lame and irrelevant point.
It was just a meet and greet!
"Hi, I am your new publisher, it is great to meet me. Now that we have that out of the way, half of you are fired."
Good to see that the WSJ was able to obtain the KC Star without having to dilute the stock. I hope they decide to name it, "The FOX Printing Co."
Anon 4:13/4:28: Double Bingo's! We have multiple winners!
Yesterday(11-9)The KC Star had an editorial that waxed nostalgic about the good ole' days of East Germany. And they wonder why they are in trouble.
I'm sorry, wasn't this thread supposed to be about Biloxi and yet ANOTHER batch of hard workers who lost their jobs right before the Holidays and the ones left behind to absorb even MORE of a workload than they already had to juggle? That's what I thought.
It's all in a state of utter chaos.
3 people in the imiging dept got axed, the other 2 will move to other depts to help keep the flow of info going-now,how the hell they plan on gettin the correct info upstairs to the press i dont know.the imiging dept played a vital role in gettin the info to the CTP-they were a major 'hub' in the whole process
10:57 -- how many people will be laid off?
Looks like your new publisher has a reputation. He did the same thing in Bellingham. Only, he did wait a little longer to deliver the bad news. He got to know the employees first and then attacked. more than once.
I see the Bellingham Slasher have arrived in Biloxi.
4:09pm____ LMAO!
...and the blood keeps on flowing.
