More freelancers = less employed journalists.
Rummaging through Sarah Palin’s garbage really paid off huh?
The free-lancers are wanted for advertising sections, not news sections. Nothing unusual about that. Ad sections have traditionally used free-lancers.
10:18 Of course they are dear! (wink, wink)
And that Gary Pruitt, great guy huh?
10:30AM - So people who are too busy to read the job posting don't fall into your trap:
"The Anchorage Daily News is looking for experienced free-lancers to write fresh, compelling stories for special sections and a new magazine produced by the advertising department."
Note the detail clearly stating "advertising department"
Stop winking and read.
They want freelancers who will settle for $50 a story - the bucks that were paid in 1980.
I hate Sarah Palin and will lie willingly. Will I do?
I just know I will fit in with the team.
Sounds like you have all the qualifications we need!
3:23... Dis are a hi class operation. Youse gotta promise to shower and change clothes at least once a week if you been climbin' in them dipsey dumpsters doin' that hard hittin' journalism we are known for.
Publishing ad supplements and magazines via the advertising department is SOP. At McClatchy's N&O in Raleigh it morphed into a fully staffed division before they turned around and laid everyone off. The one remaining magazine - now written by a freelancer.
One good thing about freelancers - they're disposable. Hire them, fire them and nobody notices.
Expect them to be paid peanuts. I know whereof I speak.
