There are still many signs of the fall of communism in Europe. And since many of the old guard reminisce for their glorious past (See Editor and Publisher), to that end, McClatchy could hold their prestigious I.F. Stone Award in their old politburo building and thereby get a twofer for their fellow Trotskyites? After all, no greater honor...
It is very common for "logos" to remain on buildings until a new tenant is found by the owner of that building. It all depends on the terms of the lease for that space. If the logo owner also owns that building, the situation explains itself.
Nothing like advertising that you're shuttering the shop.
