Thrilled with coverage, White House press secretary gives reporters an "A"

Michael Calderone says White House press secretary Robert Gibbs gives White House press corps a "strong A" for their work over the first 100 days of the new administration.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the White House reporters are embarrassed by thumbs up from the White House.

The only proper response, from any ethical journalist (are there any in the house) for when the press and this white house get along this well, is we are getting so royally screwed. And boy are we.

gibbs truly looks sociopathic in this picture.

Here in Louisiana, we have a similar set up. The offices of the capitol press corps are located in the basement of the State Capitol building.

The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune, The (Baton Rouge) Advocate, The Associated Press, and all the Gannett papers in the state have their offices there.

Who is watching whom?

ROBERT DEWITT: Media outlets in short supply of fair, balanced news
The Tuscaloosa News

The American news media should provide this country with a 'marketplace of ideas.' It would like to provide Americans with a company commissary.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, company towns were common. A saw mill, steel mill or coal mine built a town around the industry and supplied life's basic necessities, including a retail store.

The mills and mines sometimes paid in 'script' fake money redeemable only at the company store. Sometimes they allowed workers credit at the company store and deducted the store bill from the workers' checks.

The mines and mills not only controlled what their workers bought, they profited from their purchases. And they controlled the whole town so there could be no competition to provide workers with a choice.

I think about that company store mentality when I see columnists and cartoonists vilify Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Competition is hurting the company store. And I wrote this believing that this newspaper still believes in providing a marketplace of ideas.

Members of the news media are supposed to keep an eye on those in power, the ones with access to the money and influence. But as a group, with notable exceptions, they do that only when Republicans are in power.

The American media, for the most part, has become a public relations wing for the Democratic party and political liberalism.

"The Truth": D'Antuono Cancels Unveiling of Obama Painting Due to Public Outrage

NEW YORK, April 27 Painter Michael D'Antuono has cancelled the planned public unveiling of his latest work "The Truth" at NYC's Union Square Park on President Obama's 100th day in office due to overwhelming public outrage.

The artist's decision was based in part on thousands of emails and phone calls; online blogs and other public commentary received in the first 48 hours following its release.

The painting which was first made public on Friday depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross; atop his head, a crown of thorns. Behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. The photo was the most emailed picture on the web.

MNI PLAYS UP AIG, BUT NOT ONE THEIR OWN.(pruit)

Bankrupt Philly Newspaper Company Paid CEO $1.175 million after Alleged Bailout Request

Remember the outrage over the compensation paid out to AIG executives earlier this year, after the federal government had to extend a lifeline to troubled insurance provider?

There's a little-publicized story that the parent company of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News, Philadelphia Newspapers LLC allegedly sought a $10-million bailout from the state of Pennsylvania according to lawsuit filed by a Chester County, Pa. charter school.

However, the Associated Press reported on April 24 that the company's chief, Brian Tierney - received $1.175 million in salary and bonus compensation in 2008, despite being forced into bankruptcy protection in February for $395 million in debt.

"Recent court filings also show that Tierney collected $1.175 million in salary and bonuses last year, somewhat higher than previously disclosed," Maryclaire Dale wrote for the AP. "Tierney's compensation included $650,000 in salary, a $350,000 bonus for 2008, a $175,000 bonus for 2007 and $81,000 in transportation costs."

Obama was angry with TOTUS today, telling him to pick up the pace, in front of everybody. TOTUS tells him to stop breathing his nicotine breath on him. A real standoff I heard. You have to see the blunder-mumbler in action to appreciate the hilarity of this. Just another soaring speech day for the press. Chris Matthews has something more than a tingle, but it’s not up his leg. Eeewww!

The White House press was so hostile to President Bush. I was often taken aback with the hatred they displayed.

Helen Thomas was the most hateful old bag. The likes of her should not be allowed to practice her special brand of hatred in any society. How did she get away with such unprofessional behavior? Was it because no one was professional, so they didn’t notice?

"White House Apologizes for Air Force Flyover
Downtown New Yorkers terrified, President furious,
Mayor ticked off and someone somewhere is out of a job."

Bunch of fools all! It's Obama's fault, running around like a Chicago thug. The president is always the blame. Now the duumbeat/echo press should fly into action on this.

Adolf Hitler gave Goebells an "A" as well.

Where would Obama be without the lapdog press? Certainly not president.

"Where would Obama be without the lapdog press? Certainly not president."

That's just one of the many reasons why I want 95% of newspapers to go kaput.
