Huh?... daily circulation at the Miami Herald falls by 39,862 just six months

This is hard to fathom -- the latest numbers from the Audit Bureau of Circulations show the daily circulation at the Miami Herald has plunged 39,862 in just 6 months.

Check out these numbers for the Miami Herald:
daily 3/30/09: 202,122
daily 9/30/09: 162,260

Total loss: 39,862 (-23%)

Worse than anybody imagined. And more than double the national average of 10 percent.

FYI, I'm still looking for the numbers on other McClatchy papers...

Hmm a 23% drop. Why that puts McClatchy right up there with its liberal sister, the San Francisco Comical.

Great work Melanie Sill types!

A decline in sales for the Miami Herald indicates that more people in Cuba are getting their propaganda from some other source.

Though Dear Leader has been in office for more than nine months, and McMarxism’s 23% circulation drop over the past six months is unprecedented, it begs the question of how all their Dear Leader fawning worked out for them?

In a microcosm, the first clue was McMarxism’s Dear Leader trinket sale, where no sales statistics were ever given, and questions about their abysmal sales quietly, just went away.

The next McMarxism boondoggle will be for them to jump right onto their DNC masters boycott of FOX News.

Sadly, this means it will be another six months for this next tainted liberal meal to flow through McMarxism’s gut.

But since the Titanic will not change course (and as of now, who cares if they do) the next six months will therefore be just as instructive as the last.

Meaning, the last six months of dysfunctional layoffs and blaming anyone and everything but themselves (typical of liberals) will be the controlling game plan.

The McClatchy rudderless, plague ship, is therefore steering on autopilot for itd Chapter 11 destination.

These are mind-boggling drops. Are people just not renewing subscriptions in droves? I knew the product had deteriorated with all the talented people leaving and taking buyouts but this is alarming. I'm very nervous.

You've got to be careful assuming mass exodus of readers here. In many, many cases, MNI papers are voluntarily dumping subscribers on outlying delivery routes and even mail-only subscribers because the cost of getting the paper to them is more than what the subscriber pays, and advertisers couldn't care less about readers outside the primary trade zone.

The question is, just how many more reports are you going to use that excuse? They've been saying that very same thing for well over a year now.

People are dumping the leftist rags like never before. Better hurry up and become the government tentacle.

10:49... I think you are seeing an whole new group that is fed up with the biased main stream papers. Conservatives dropped it after years of mindless Bush bashing. Now independents are beginning to realize that the never ending Obama worship has brought us a President who has, as his main goal, the destruction of this country.

They figure if the liberal media is not going to cover stories like ACORN or Chris Dodd or Barney Frank, that they may as well not pay to not read stories that are not covered.

Anon 11:19 That being true, then McClatchy must have, of course, picked back up all those loyal subscribers to their on-line paper?

However, I believe their Sacramento area market penetration is horrid at 8%, so perhaps not.

But on the other coast, I hear in the Miami area, Castro and McClatchy do work very well together.

SacBee online penetration is indeed very low for its market. They've completely dropped the ball on the wired side. Coupled with a paid circ drop, the potential could be devastating.

What can you say about a paper that puts as a front page story, the death of Mercedes Sosa, a mediocre singer at best, but who simply adored the murdering maniac Che Guevara, but did NOT print in the paper any article or report of the death of Irving Kristol. I looked through each page of 3 days of my Herald---nothing in any of my editions. There was an obituary on line. Bill Buckley's death got a page 3 spot.

Murdering maniac? like the 100,000 we've now killed over "weapons of mass destruction"?

Anonymous said...

1:11 aw did someone say something nasty about your hero Che? Didn't anyone tell you that Che is, like, so over now and everybody is all about Mao just like Obama's communications director Anita Dunn.

Che didn't murder anywhere near enough people to satisfy a true Marxist-American. You have to reach into the millions of dead to be a hero to the Stalin loving liberals. Che was a real underachiever.

And, oh, by the way... there were weapons of mass destruction, but you wouldn't know that if you only follow the main stream media knee pad mantra. That is the soon to be extinct main stream knee pad media.

Say good night, Gracie.

Everyone is missing the real story in these numbers. It is not a question of how many subscriptions were lost, it is a question of why there are still 162,260 people buying this paper.

Even in Miami there can't be that many people with lobotomy's. And even if there were, I know for a fact every one with a lobotomy in Miami spends all their time on the freeways.

When I worked in Miami at The Herald in the early 80's through 1990, our circulation daily was 435,000 and 535,000 on Sunday. Those were the good ole days. We could have owned Ft. Lauderdale too, and all of Broward, but Publishers and GM's never cared and thought the gravy train in Dade would would roll forever. How wrong they were!

Sacramento Bee circulation falls 14.1 percent

Locally, the Sacramento Bee’s average weekday circulation fell 14.1 percent in the six months ended Sept. 30, a faster pace than the industry average of 10.6 percent, according to a semiannual report released Monday by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

The Bee’s daily circulation dipped to 217,545, from 253,248 for the same April-to-September period last year. That’s off from 307,480 in the March 2008 period. ABC publishes circulation reports in the spring and fall.

The Bee’s Sunday circulation dropped 10.4 percent to 267,974, from 299.206, worse than the 7.5 percent fall industry wide.

Sac Bee's news boss Melanie Sill admits blatant bias in editorial today:

"There's no dispute that The Bee has a liberal editorial page on most issues, though not all matters, and has mostly endorsed Democrats.

We won't change our editorial philosophy to placate critics."

YOU GO GIRL!

Last night Melanie Sill dreamed of the ghost of Christmas past. Tonight she will dream of the ghost of Christmas present. Next week she will dream a little dream for me.

Say good night, Malanie.

“But do I still ask them if they want fries, after they order the Happy Meal, which comes with fries?” It’s so confusing!

It is not the fact that so many of these English and journalism majors are about to be unemployed, it is the fact that so many of them are going to be unemployable.

They destroyed one industry. No one is going to give them a chance to destroy another.

On the bright side it will be nice to catch a cab and have a driver that has read and sort of understands Chaucer.

I lost my job at an MNI newspaper earlier this year. I'm still receiving my paper - for free, apparently. Granted, I didn't request it be stopped. But I haven't received a bill yet. I wonder whether the paper's too afraid to drop all the nonpaying subscribers for fear of the loss? Maybe it'll happen now that the latest ABC report came out.

Seems to me the Sac Bee once had a daily circ of 330,000-plus. Now it's 217,000???? Holy crap!

Anonymous said...

It is hard to believe that there are still 217,000 households in the Sacramento area with dogs that are not housebroken.

The SacBee's Sunday circ is down about 100,000 in the past four years!!!! The Sunday paper is a piece of shit at the moment. Great job Melanie Sill. I'm sure there's a bonus coming to you and you're wonderful management team of lifer losers.

Looks like BizJournal beat the Bee on its own story. Sign of the times.

What? Bee was 307,000 in March 2008 and is now 217,000. Is that right? That's a 90,000 drop in a little more than a year. Way to go Melanie. What brilliant management skills you have.
