Happy Birthday, Fox News

Townhall.com | Bill O'Reilly

Big birthday this week: Fox News Channel is 13 years old. I was there on Oct. 7, 1996, when the channel was launched with about 15 million subscribers. Now we have about 90 million. Back then, if "The Factor" received 50 e-mails a day we were happy. Now, we average about 2,000 electronic letters daily. FNC is perhaps the biggest media success since the networks were formed in the 1940s. Fox News is a billion-dollar enterprise that dominates cable news ratings and is consistently in the top five of all cable programs.

BREAKING - Barack Hussein Obama Declared Winner of 2000 Florida Recount

On a day which has already seen an unprecedented number of contests, awards, and competitions surprisingly go his way, President B. Hussein Obama now has one more feather in his cap: the presidency of George W. Bush.

The Florida Supreme Court and United States Supreme Court, in an extraordinary and highly unconstitutional joint session, have granted former Vice-President Gore's request for a targeted recount of the 2000 presidential election results in select Florida counties.

Furthermore, the joint court has declared Obama to be the winner of the recount, thereby gaining all of Florida's electoral votes in the 2000 election.

Justice Stephen Breyer explained: "We were told all along that whoever won Florida would win the election. It was in all the European papers. It must be law."

Barry Bonds concedes HR title to zero.

The former home run king of major league baseball has graciously conceded his title to zero. "It's the least I could do", said Bonds in a telephone interview earlier today from his palatial home in San Francisco.

"Even though he throws like a girl, I just know he has 800 home runs in him". No word yet from Hammerin' Hank or The Babe.

Pointless Nobel prize reveals how President Obama is lost in his own mystique (Timesonline)

Pointless Nobel prize reveals how President Obama is lost in his own mystique Bronwen Maddox: Foreign Briefing

Scrap the Nobel Peace Prize. It’s an embarrassment and even an impediment to peace. President Obama, in letting the committee award it to him, has made himself look vain, a fool and dangerously lost in his own mystique.

Where do you start, in the daftness of it? Anointing a leader whose character the panel admires, but who is only a fifth of the way through his term of office and has not yet clinched any peace?

Rupert Murdoch: You call it free news, I call you ‘kleptomaniac’

At the World Media Summit in Beijing, it was all about paying for news — as in: You’re going to pay for news, and if you think it shouldn’t cost you anything, you’re a “flat-earther” and a “kleptomaniac.”

Comment: absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize (London) Times

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.

Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.

Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize. No, Really. For Real, He Did. Yes, I Pinky-Swear. (Patterico)

It seems like I’m kidding, doesn’t it? But I’m not. Even his sycophants in Big Media are taken aback by the decision:

President Barack Obama won the 2009Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

The Nobel Peace Prize is now officially a joke.

Wait, this just in: it already was.
I give this decision an A-.
P.S. Lech Walesa is less than impressed. He is quoted in the linked article as saying: “So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far.”

Yasser Arafat could not be reached for comment, but presumably would complain that Obama hasn’t killed enough people yet to qualify.

What Are They Smoking In Oslo?
(WSJ)

A prize for not being George W. Bush.

This year's awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama can only hasten the decline in prestige of an award that has already gone to people like Yasser Arafat, UN General Secretary Kofi Annan (who presided over the Iraqi oil-for-food scam) and the fabulist Guatemalan activist Rigoberta Menchu.

For this year's Nobel, the deadline was February 1, barely ten days after Mr. Obama had assumed the presidency. Though the Nobel committee of five Norwegian politicians presumably considered the evidence over the summer, it's fair to say their award represents little more than wishful thinking that Mr. Obama's diplomatic efforts will ultimately bear fruit.

'USA Today' Will Show 17% Circulation Decline in Next Report (Editor & Publisher)

When the Audit Bureau of Circulations releases the latest numbers on Oct. 26, it will show that USA Today's circulation fell 17% to 1.88 million for the six months ending September 2009, a drop of about 390,000 copies. The decline could also threaten USA Today’s position as the No. 1 newspaper in the country by circulation.

To put that in perspective, the reduction of copies represents roughly the entire daily circulation of The Arizona Republic the 10th largest paper in the U.S. as of spring.

The loss was an expected one at the Nation's Newspaper, which implemented a price increase last December to $1, and has been punished by the travel industry struggling to cope with a serve economic downturn. "We have known this," David Hunke, president and publisher of USA Today, said on a phone call from a Marriott hotel in San Francisco. "We have been aware the statement coming out is the toughest one we have ever faced."

Marked for Death: Entertainment Weekly(MagazineDeathPool.com)

Time Inc. employees should just take a look at their late-to-the-show neighbors at Conde Nast and what it took them to finally cut down to a normal size.

Bloated Conde Nast had to hire McKinsey & Co. to tell them what anybody with common sense could have told them for free over the past five years.

Entertainment Weekly has been losing as much traction as Jennifer Aniston's career. For years, the Reaper circles the building on Avenue of the Americas, taking Cottage Living and Southern Accents, wondering when they'll let go of EW and turn it into the web property it cries out to be.

It's like Kubler-Ross' stages of death, except Time Inc. refuses to move out of the denial phase. Ad pages are plummeting faster than Jon Gosselin's popularity with women. It's thinner than the last photos of I saw of Mischa Barton.

NYT Touts White House Artworks, Misses Obvious Copy, Apparent Fraud

Yesterday, the NYT ran a story about the White House acquiring art. It included a slide show of a dozen artworks.

One abstract work he admired:
"Watusi (Hard Edge)," by Alma Thomas, a longtime Washington resident who is an African-American painter.

It looked reminiscent, even derivative of a favorite artwork of Matisse from the Tate Gallery in London.

In fact, the new one was EXACTLY the same composition as the Matisse, rotated 90 degrees.

It seems to be an embarrassment for the "sophisticates" who failed to spot a copy hiding in plain sight.

As too many people say about abstract expressionist art: "Even I could have done THAT!"

Hard leftist make up the Norwegian Nobel Committee-
The America haters said they "attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons." Wimping out impresses socialists to the max.

Obama won the so-called peace prize for apologizing for the USA. The weakling can’t find one good thing to say about our country. Europe loved seeing a socialist US president criticizing capitalism, and his country.
Also, anytime the UN thugs praise anyone from the USA, BEWARE! Of course they gladly take our money. Now they want a world tax? The Debt President will gleefully tax our people who don’t deserve their money, meaning everyone not on welfare.

Why do politicians – including
sadly, the Tories this week –
fawn over Bono, a smug hypocritical,
whining, tax dodging Irish mountebank?

Daily Mail [UK]
Quentin Letts

To encounter Bono at one party conference might be construed a misfortune. (Snip) What is it about this whiny little Dubliner that makes one's gorge rise? What is it that makes him feel he can lecture the rest of us about how to spend our tax money, while he himself leads a life of near-unimaginable wealth?

Bono is just another leftist.
Don’t you just love a rich creep trying to make everyone else feel guilty for our rewards due to hard work? Bono reminds me of Sheryl Crowbait and her 'one' sheet of TP screed. Just more do as I say, not as I do crap. Algore is the better at that than Bono anyway.

Bono might be a lefty but he deserves the Nobel more than Obama.
