Right now at McClatchy's web site, the "Top Story" is an article entitled "Racism May Affect Infant Mortality Rates." I am not joking, somebody at McClatchy thinks this is the Top Story. Not the death of one of Al Queda's top leaders in Iraq, not the mounting evidence the surge in Iraq is working, not the crisis in Myanmar, not concerns over Iran's nuclear program.
Here is the link: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/20099.html
The article is written by Halima Abdullah. The article reports on a study by some group calling itself The Joint Center For Political and Economic Studies' Health Policy Institute. (Did you notice the "Political" part of the name? And if so, did your radar go off?)
McClatchy's radar didn't go off, because Abdullah repeated without challenge some of the findings. (And some of the findings don't pass the laugh test. Try this one from paragraph five: many minority women have premature babies because they work longer hours due to wanting acceptance from white co-workers. Sheesh.) Go to the link and read the article. See if you conclude Abdullah and the geniuses at McClatchy are using good news judgment here.
