General Petraeus told reporters in Baghdad that Al Qaeda in Iraq no longer operates in large numbers in any neighborhood in Baghdad. The strategy of targeting Al Qaeda leaders, hindering foreign fighters from entering the country, and working with Sunni citizens has paid off. Particularly successful was a campaign to destroy insurgent bomb-making operations in Iraq. The Washington Post story is here. FOX has the story here.
You'd think McClatchy would have this story, right? Right now on McClatchy's Iraq web page is the story about the Iraqi women journalists working for McClatchy. UPDATE 6:15 PM: Somebody finally updates the Iraq web page. But what a shocker, no information about the defeat being inflicted on Al Qaeda. Nope, can't have that. Sunday's update is a snarky story about Chalabi playing a role in recontruction. Sheesh.
What is the point of having a Baghdad bureau if you can't inform your readers what is going on in the war?
