John Bolton: McCain will be prepared immediately to lead when he takes office

John Bolton endorsed John McCain today. Bolton's statement:

"John McCain was very active and supportive during my confirmation hearings to be the U.S. Ambassador to the UN. His belief in me at that time was a testament to his courage to fight the liberals in the Senate and vigorously advance American interests at the UN.

"I whole-heartedly endorse John McCain for President because when he takes office in January 2009 he will be prepared immediately to lead us. John will not need on the job training.

"American conservatives will have a President they can be proud of in John McCain."

During the Bolton confirmation hearings, McCain didn't cave the way some queasy Republicans did. Here's a Voinovich flashback from 2005: "

Voinovich was outspoken Thursday in his opposition to Bolton's nomination, suggesting it might not pass the full Senate, where it needs a simple majority of 51 for approval.

He said he plans to vote against the undersecretary of state for arms control and would encourage other senators to do likewise.

"It is my opinion that John Bolton is the poster child of what someone in the diplomatic corps should not be," said Voinovich.
