The moral confusion of some people is astonishing. Academy Award-winning director Errol Morris says the abuse at Abu Ghraib is "perhaps the major news event of our time."
Can you imagine a more absurd claim?
Below is a short list of some of the major news events in the last 3 decades. Each news event below dwarfs what happened at Abu Ghraib:
Discovery of AIDS in the early 1980s
Marine barracks bombing in 1983 that killed 241 troops
Saddam using a chemical gas attack on the Kurds in 1988, killing 5,000
Fall of communism and the Berlin Wall in 1989
The 1994 Rwandan genocide that killed nearly a million people
Campaign of terror and violence by Milosovic against Kosovo Albanians in 1999
September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on American soil
Tsunami of December 26, 2004 that killed close to 200,000 people
Perhaps 20 prisoners at Abu Ghraib died, just a tiny fraction of the human misery in some of the above events. If there was an Academy Award for idiocy, Errol Morris has earned it.
