Mosul update: the noose around Al Qaeda's neck is tightening

The noose around Al Qaeda's neck in Moul is getting tighter. During several offensive operations in Mosul on Monday, coalition forces killed one terrorist and detained 14 others. On Sunday, US and Iraqi troops discovered more than 400 pounds of homemade explosives in a large cache while searching houses in eastern Mosul. Also on Sunday, MNF-I announced 41 insurgents had been captured in eastern Mosul last week, as part of Operation Eagle Harvest II in eastern Mosul. The goal of Operation Eagle Harvest II is to clear insurgents from the neighborhood so a combat outpost can be established.

Over the weekend, Iraq's security forces imposed a curfew in 2 districts in Mosul. Also, an official announced that 3,000 extra policemen have arrived in Mosul to assist in the expected assault against Al Qaeda.

On January 25, the prime minister promised a “decisive battle” against the jihadists in Mosul.
