Vice President Dick Cheney will visit Israel on Saturday to try to push forward Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, his spokeswoman said.
He will also visit the Palestinian territories over the weekend, before leaving for Turkey, his last stop on a nine-day visit to the Middle East region.
"The vice president's discussions will involve the ways forward in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and Israel's right to defend itself against terrorism and to protect its citizenry," Lea Anne McBride, Cheney's spokeswoman, told reporters traveling with him.
Israel has tightened its economic and military cordon around the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by the Islamist group Hamas.

Cheney heads to Israel, will urge Israel to accept suicide deal
Dick Cheney is headed to Israel to urge Israel to accept a suicide agreement that is against Israel's long term survival. The Palestinians do not recognize Israel's right to exist, so a "peace deal" with them is pointless. Moreover, history has shown when Israel does make concessions - such as the 2005 withdrawal from the Gaza Strip - the Palestinians make no concessions of their own. From Reuters:
