Days after after running story on a reflection in Cheney's sunglasses, McClatchy VP whines that reporters are missing the real issues facing the US...

Last week McClatchy ran a national story about a reflection in Dick Cheney's sunglasses some lefty blogs claimed was a reflection of a naked woman. The McClatchy article: "Is that really a naked woman in Dick Cheney's sunglasses?" Above is a screenshot (courtesy Newsbusters) of the blockbuster story from McClatchy's web site.

The McClatchy story was panned. See Newsbusters' take here.

The man who oversees news at McClatchy is Howard Weaver. His title is "Vice President, News". Today on his blog he whines that the AP didn't grill John McCain about Iraq.

I wasn't present, but I'm told John McCain delivered prepared remarks and then was questioned for 40 minutes at the NAA/ASNE convention here Monday morning, and the word "Iraq" was never spoken. (I read the transcript of his remarks, and it sure wasn't there.)

Two AP reporters doing the questioning never asked about Iraq. Most news stories led with his remarks supporting a shield law.

Inexcusable.

Mr. "Vice President, News" was silent on McClatchy's big news coverage of the reflection in Dick Cheney's sunglasses.
