Not much of a "Prison Break": UK inmate walks away from "open" prison

Wesley Crawford, serving a 12-year sentence for armed robbery, walked away from a Derbyshire prison on Tuesday, authorities announced. Based on the number of inmates who have walked away from this prison in the past decade, I'm betting this criminal didn't have to do much in the way of planning his escape. BBC:

A convicted armed robber has absconded from a Derbyshire prison, police in the county confirmed.

Wesley Crawford, 42, whose last known address was in Birmingham, absconded from HMP Sudbury on Tuesday 6 May.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison at Wolverhampton Crown Court in July 2001. Crawford is described as black, 5ft 6in tall and of medium build.

More than 660 inmates walked out of HMP Sudbury in the past 10 years.

660 inmates in the past ten years?! That's more than one criminal a week walking away. Shouldn't somebody get a clue that it's time to put up a fence??

West Midlands Police said anyone with any information about Crawford's whereabouts should immediately contact their local police or Crimestoppers.

How does a criminal doing hard time for armed robbery end up in an "open" prison, anyway?
