“I wasn’t elected to be a role model as to how people should vote,” Mahoney says of the presidential race. “People in my district are smart enough to decide.”
Mahoney didn’t endorse Obama or Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primary season and might not take sides at the convention.
Unless some compelling need arises for his services as a superdelegate, he says, he’d rather skip the convention to spend time in his congressional district.
Mahoney is a former Republican who became a Democrat in 2005.
