US allies in the middle east sign oil deal

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki (left) is greeted at the Beit al-Baraka royal palace in Jordan by Jordan's King Abdullah (right) on June 12. (AFP/POOL/Awad Awad) The two leaders agreed on Thursday to renew a 2006 deal to sell discounted oil to Jordan for three years. From prior reports we know Jordan is lobbying other Arab nations to provide economic assistance to Iraq.

This is a positive development for everyone who wants to see our pro-western allies in the middle east develop constructive ties. As Iraq's oil output continues to increase, they will have more leverage to make arrangements with other countries to rebuild and improve Iraq. (I assume the reason McClatchy hasn't reported on this news is they are scrambling to find an anti-Bush angle.)
