Another one!... McClatchy's Wichita Eagle offers buyouts -- 6th McClatchy paper this month

The Wichita Eagle announced today it is offering buyouts to all fulltime employees, becoming the 6th McClatchy paper to do so this month. Kansas.com:

The Wichita Eagle is offering voluntary buyouts to all of its full-time employees, its top executive announced today.

There is no target number for staff reductions, president and publisher Pam Siddall said. The company may not approve buyouts for all who seek them, she said.

The move is an attempt to cut costs in the face of difficult business conditions for the newspaper industry, Siddall said.

The Eagle last week instituted a one-year wage freeze, as did all 30 newspapers in the McClatchy Company, which owns The Eagle. In the past year, McClatchy has initiated limited layoffs, as well as a number of other cost-cutting and revenue growth efforts.

On Bloody Monday, the Wichita Eagle cut 12 positions.
