Misspellings mar rollout of Miami Herald's redesigned web site

The Miami Herald's new web site debuted today. But the new design hasn't fixed the on-going problem with misspellings.

UPDATE: A commenter blames the AP, pointing out a number of newspapers had the same spelling error, which originated in the AP feed. Good work to the commenter for showing the error origninated at the AP and was compounded at other newspapers. My opinion: blaming the AP doesn't excuse the product that appears on the Miami Herald's web site. Did all papers who used the AP feed make the same mistake?

I think we're going to be seeing a lot more of this at all of the papers. They have laid off a lot of copy editors here - including ones that work on cleaning up our web site. That should help our sales and reputation!

uh, it's an ap feed story

yeah google "jury dileberating" and you'll find it on tons of sites. this was not a miami herald error. this was an AP error. sure, it'd be nice if someone had caught the error before it rolled onto the site, but it was promptly corrected.

a valid point, but remember, we're talking about a company that is understaffed and only getting worse. ap feed stories come in through an automated backend and don't get direct editor attention. unless someone points out an error. so maybe rather than posting HAW HAW LOOK HOW THIS NEWSPAPER WHO BARELY HAS A STAFF TO KEEP RUNNING IS MAKING MISTAKES, perhaps a kind email to the paper pointing out the error and allowing them to fix it would be better. or maybe contacting the ap, who could then send an update to the feed, which would propagate across all papers automatically, thus allowing those who already overworked to concentrate on more important matters.

DOH...slaps head!!! At least the COPY EDITORS should have caught this...Isn't that what they are paid for? Maybe they don't have spell checker in INDIA!!!
Just another example of McClatchy papers being handed down orders to cut staff and do more with less people...Yo Pruitt, good job!
