This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.
Modbee busted me!!! This story... http://www.modbee.com/local/story/483386.html Hughson couple's burden eases as husband gets a new job... was on Modbee.com today 11/1/08. I commented that while the Bee was reporting on his job loss in September they were laying off 160 employees. That McClatchy was just adding fuel to the fire. My comment was on there at 9:00 or 9:30 PM and as I check now at 11:00 PM it has been removed. BTW when I checked at 9:00 there were 2 positive ratings! Damage control team in action!!! What happened to freedom of speech? I bet I get banned from posting on Modbee.com (again!)
More Modesto Bee news...I was at an event this Sunday and happened to see a couple of Bee employees covering it. I knew one and knew of the other. As we were talking I found out the Modesto Bee has cut the company vehicles and required employees that need transportation for doing company business to up their auto insurance coverage and if they use their cars for company business two or more times a week then the Bee will reimburse them for part of their auto insurance. I also found out that there are more cuts coming in the form of cutting hours starting in January. Also seems that the employees that are left are keeping their options open as far as employment outside the Bee. These folks I talked to today were just going through the motions of reporting and photographing this event. How sad for them and the readers.

Will somebody please tell me why McClatchy stock has risen so much this week?
Anonymous -- Several newspaper stocks had good weeks.
How can you explain a mystery?
