Glad to be out of the mess in Charlotte also. Tho I did love my job and would have stayed under other circumstances, myself and others left voluntarily because of the very tense and punitive environment. I've been searching for 3 months and thought it'd be much easier to find another job. I don't know what it is about my resume - I feel totally qualified for any and all the jobs I've applied for - but it isn't getting any response.

Modesto, one of the ground zero locations for the real estate debacle is hard pressed to create jobs. The job fair yesterday (hosted by the Modesto Bee (HA HA)) was mostly trade and vocational schools and Jr./community colleges. The 8 or 9 businesses that were there had specific job descriptions and if you didn't have previous experience then forget it. Storer Transportation had the most promising hire, but driving a bus at$12.00 hr is less than unemployment benefits. Turned in applications or resumes at 10 places both physically and on line in the last two weeks and no replies. Mostly entry level production/warehouse jobs...Winco,Gallo, etc. Again $12.00 to $14.00 an hour. Unemployment is still better and I can get projects done at home. Think I'll try selling junk at the flea markets...all cash,no taxes! (That or the black market).

I been looking for work these past five weeks, but thus far have been only getting polite "thank you (rejection) letters" from employers. EDD and Alliance are very helpful, I cannot say enough nice things about them. In the interim, the unemployment benefits are a blessing. I wish all the best of luck as we deal with these times.

The most important thing is to spend the time on your resume. I can't impress on you enough how important it is. I redid mine and got three offers today. Good luck to all of you.

To the folks that posted from Modesto, I wonder if your comment about unemployment compensation is the reason why you were let go. With those kind of work ethics or drive to "not succeed" its no wonder that you want to stay home and do projects instead of work. With the severance package you got + the unemployment benefit's maybe you can do more sitting around like you used to get paid to do....
