This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

Journalism news articles at FreeRepublic.com has the ‘DeathWatch’ designation in the title line. It usually gives an early heads-up to another situation to ponder. ---------------------------- -Battered U.S. media prays for its bailout (Dinosaur Media DeathWatch™)- Toronto Globe & Mail ^ | November 28, 2008 | Richard Siklos
"It looks like 2008 will be the first year in 48 years that TV-station advertising will decline in a presidential election and Olympic year," said Michael Nathanson, media analyst at Sanford Bernstein.”
This past week Kansas City Star publisher Mark Zieman met with the members of the sales force and said there will be no more layoffs in 2008 (which ends on 12-28-2008).
No more layoffs 2008????? That's BIG of him. The reason is this is their busy time and everyone is using their vacations(PTO) days up. Wait until after the first. They did a layoff last January.
Anonymous 10:28 No, The Star didn't do layoffs last January. In late November 2007, The Star announced buyouts for people who had been there at least 10 years. Eligible employees had until mid December to take the offer, and the last day for those who were accepted for the buyout was Jan. 11, 2008. Get your facts straight before you comment.
Anonymous 1:20 and 1:23 Yes, I know it was January. However, the people who left took buyouts. They were NOT laid off.
And there's a big difference between taking a buyout and leaving on your own terms, and having a couple of managers call you in to their office and tell you that you don't have a job any more.
If you want to REALLY believe that go for it. The buyouts are either or but I know you can't understand that. You probably believe in the tooth fairy to.
Everyone who has left in the past year around two hundred got buyouts but many of them did not want to leave.
Don't forget to put your tooth under your pillow tonight.
A clearly desperate Mark Zieman AKA Greg, Mark G, G Mark, Gregory M, has posted a pathetic propaganda editorial (unidentified as such) full of distortions about their readership and future. A must read for all in need of a laugh. For some reason they took his picture off the article. Maybe the shit eating grin?

Ask Tracy Hazan she always speaks for him. Oh, I'm sorry, she speaks but knows nothing.
