McClatchy has named Eric E. Johnston as president and publisher of The Modesto Bee.
Eric Johnston is currently VP of interactive media and classified advertising at the Modesto Bee, but will step in as publisher effective immediately. In 2004, Johnston was promoted to VP of interactive media, and three years later he was named VP of interactive media and audience development. In 2008, Johnston assumed the additional role of overseeing classified advertising, according to Editor & Publisher. Johnston will replace the well-liked Margaret R. Randazzo, who left the Modesto Bee at the end of December to work for an energy company

The McClatchy way...stuffing 10 pounds of manure into a 5 pound sack. Will Eric keep his current duties too? I know the reporters are also doing photographer's duties, and editors and others are doing other duties.

Margaret R. Randazzo was well liked?
Yes, Margaret was liked for the most part. I, like many' thought she was brought in to do the "Bottom Feeder's" dirty work. When the layoff time came at Modesto, she was very upset when she had to tell us. Our last day there they had a party...if you could call it that...and she didn't mince words about what had happened. On the other hand Mark Vasche went on with is drivel about the "good 'ol days" and really insulted us. I saw Margaret in tears walking out of her office once shortly after the announcement. It was an ugly time at Modesto and it's was too bad Margaret was forced into the situation, I think that's why she resigned. I wish Eric good luck, and I hope he considers what he is getting him self into. I wouldn't want to be the Publisher of any paper right now!
