Email to McClatchy editor about Friday's N&O article on "dramatic video"

Readers of my blog know the N&O posted a story on its web site Friday about a newly discovered dramatic video which captured the landing of US Airways flight 1549 -- but the N&O didn't bother embedding the video or give readers a link to the video. Mysteriously, the N&O article disappeared a day or so later. (FYI, the original article has been cached; you can see it here.)
.
John in Carolina first noticed the N&O bungled the story by not sending readers to the dramatic video (his post is here). My post about the N&O story mysteriously disappearing from its web site is here.

John in Carolina
has emailed N&O editor Ted Vaden to ask what happened. The text of his email:

Dear Ted:

Re: Raleigh N&O Fl. 1549 video story doesn’t link to video

If you open the post you’ll see it raises questions about why the N&O would run a story of a new Fl. 1549 video “in all its stunning drama” without at least including a link to the video or a segment thereof, as you can see the Minneapolis Star Tribune did. (I link to it in my post)

I think many N&O readers felt as one reader said on the thread:

[K]inda strange to read an article about a tape of this event without the tape being linked or embedded in the article. Sorta like being served t-bone steak with no meat on the bone.

Why did the N&O run the story and fail, as the Strib did, to provide a link to at least a segment of the video?

When I Googled Saturday morning, I immediately found dozens of sites hosting segments.

I’ve a second question: While the Strib story is still up, the N&O’s story appears to be 404’d.

Was it 404’d; and, if so, why?

As always, I will publish your response in full at JinC.

Thank you for your attention to this email.

Sincerely,

John

Some of the early comments left after my post on the article being 404'd, apparently from journalists, said the AP story on the video was just a wire feed that posted to the N&O site automatically. As to why the article was 404'd after a day or so, the answer was, "It happens all the time, don't worry about it."

Trust me, I'm not worried about it -- I'm a blogger. It's journalists in the mainstream media who should be demanding answers.

No it isn't. You tooting the McClatchy trumpet is boring.

It's just so obvious:

The newspaper removed the page so that no one would discover that McClatchy, in league with the Democratic National Committee, Dion Nissenbaum and Hamas, trained an elite flock of geese for a suicide mission in order to cause a new 9/11.

The plan failed, because Gary Pruitt is such a terrible planner. When Ted Vaden realized that video existed and that John in Carolina and McClatchy watch might see it and expose the whole affair, the newsroom was thrown into a panic!

And McClatchy would have gotten away with the whole thing, if weren't were for those meddling kids. And menopausal men.
