McClatchy editor in Alaska brags about surge in internet hits compared to a year ago, conveniently omits the explanation

Patrick Dougherty, the McClatchy editor who set off a firestorm after admitting he assigned a reporter to investigate the Internet conspiracy theory that Sarah Palin wasn't the mother of Trig Palin, is a piece of work.

On Thursday Nielson came out with a list of newspaper web sites with the biggest increase in hits during the month of December compared to a year ago. Here are the numbers. In December 2008, the Anchorage Daily News had 1,622,000 hits. A year earlier, the number was so low the ADN didn't even make the list.

Dougherty took to his newspaper to boast about the increase in hits. He pointed out the Anchorage Daily News came in at 24th, just behind the Orlando Sentinel and ahead of The Washington Times and Detroit Free Press.

What a jump -- must be superior design, right? Great graphics, awesome photos, exciting links, right? Interactive features? Outstanding techies to keep it running?

But Dougherty doesn't give any explanation for the surge. If you want the real explanation, don't count on Dougherty.

I'll give you the straight scoop -- to understand the reason for the surge in hits over last year, click here. Or here. Or here or here or here.

Self deluded to the very last. And a nice smug picture to boot.

Can we get the after picture when his paper folds as a keep sake?

Pat's picture will be available during the entire insolvency process.

Maybe Pat could muster up a story about the damage his own liberal bias has cost the paper. Cut out the readers not interested in liberal lies. Cut out people with family values. Cut out people that expect honest reporting. Cut out the people that care about their own state, not what folks in the other 49 want them to think. Cutting out 75% of your readers? That seems like a plan only a McClatchy fool would embrace. Enter stage left, Pat Fool.

Pisssst, Hey Pat, over here,
I hear Governor Palin is one of the best governors in all 57 states. Send one of your loons to check that out. It might be a good headline for the people of Alaska. You know dude, pick up their spirits or something.

How does a loony like this weasel ever get placed in change of anything? I hope he is next on the editor retiring/chopping block.

Give the guy a break, he probably doesn't know why anyone would visit his paper for Gov. Palin gossip. He would have to admit it was gossip, and that would blow his delusional moron cover. Gov. Palin feels sympathy for this failing newspaper, why?

How about another side to the shoe toss story?

George Bush Avenue (Updated)
Excerpts:

I think quite a number of Iraqis were embarassed by how their guest got treated today. Personally, I got angry. Very angry.

And should it come to light that someone had put him up to it, paid him or cajoled him into doing it, then they too will get the same treatment.

See, I will forever remain indebted to President George W. Bush. He is my hero. He liberated Iraq, and that's how I will always see it. Had there been no President Bush, then Saddam would still be Saddam.

The usual suspects are ecstatic over what happened, [especially the US-based media and Iraq-watchers]. I would like to beat them all up too, but I think that would be a tad bit excessive.

Give it twenty years or so, but a main thoroughfare in Baghdad will be called George Bush Avenue.
