Unclear on the concept at the News & Observer

Paul Gillin is posting stories from 2008 "that surprised us, delighted us, or made us shake our heads in disbelief." Among the notables: In a glowing column about the importance of the online product and Internet readership trends, N&O executive editor John Drescher cited several online sources, but didn’t link to any of them.

From comments: "Johnny’s links are more likely 18 green ones."

Well, it's true there are no links in the story, but there are really only two things to link to, and one is the N&O site that you're already on.

"Read today's column [should have linked!] by Publisher Orage Quarles III for more on the business side of our operation..."

"As executive editor, I oversee news [link!], sports [link!], business [link!] and features [link!]. (Steve Ford supervises the opinion pages. [link!])..."

"On triangle.com [link!], you can find..."

If John Drescher had written the column thinking of what he could link to, I bet he could have thrown in several more links back to the N&O.

John Drescher’s liberal Modus Operand is well documented. Just read the N & O any day you choose. Johnny’s links are more likely 18 green ones, with a meet up with the boys in the backroom at the 19th hole bunker to exchange made-up war stories.

John not linking? Now that is a puzzler. I can take a wild shot at his linking preferences.

Bush is the most hated president: Link, link, link, link....

The Iraq war is lost: Link, link, link, link.....

The Duke Lacrosse Team was guilty of rape: Link, link, link, link....

The N & O is a Fishwrap waste of trees: Blink, blink, blink, blink....
