Modesto rumblings

A source in Modesto is hearing there will be approximately 12 newsroom layoffs. Management and HR have been in meetings all day.

Not sure when an announcement about layoffs/furloughs will be made. The Idaho Statesman says they will send their recommendations to corporate by the end of this week. I assume most McClatchy papers are on a similar schedule.

Thought I'd leave a comment, as I've enjoyed finding someone who is monitoring McClatchy. Here in Missouri, we've been in the front lines against the leftist peddling Kansas City Star. Naturally they're always arguing that they truly represent unbiased journalistic coverage - but then gratuitously sprinkle in abrasive editorials and writer slants on family issues and ACLU topics. One wonders if they know the difference, or really do believe themselves to be champions of so-called "modern democracy". However, to many residents in Missouri, all signs point to preferential treatment of which stories get included (based on Corporate views?), and writers who can't resist the urge to bring in their own analysis or ax to grind.

I can't figure out if the managers are more talkative at all of the other papers or if the managers at mine are just being kept in the dark more. My manager has no clue what the "plan" is or when it will be announced as far as I can tell.

12 sounds like a lowball number, unless they mean 12 in the newsroom only and additional layoffs in other departmenrs.

Yeah, Christian Arts Ministry, let's lay off thousands of people across the country because the newspaper doens't happen to reflect your own personal opinions. Some Christian.

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love's day;
Thou by the Indian Ganges' side
Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide
Of Humber would complain. I would
Love you ten years before the Flood;
And you should, if you please, refuse
Till the conversion of the Jews.
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.
An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;
An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.
