Announcement at the Raleigh News & Observer later today (updated)

An emailer informs me the News & Observer will make an announcement today.

Apparently packages are going out to everybody.

Management wants to see if some people will fall on their sword first before they start axing people.
Another commenter says some packages are involuntary.

UPDATE #2: 78 positions?

UPDATE #3: confirmed 78 positions.

IF Raleigh goes today, I cannot see how Charlotte could be far behind.

The axe is swinging in Raleigh. Packages are being handed out and they are going to the best reporters who cover important beats.

Packages are not going out to everybody. Some people are being given voluntary buyouts while others are being involuntarily laid off. Others are not being given a package of either kind but are receiving a pay cut and a week long furlough.
