Biloxi Sun Herald lays off 9, cuts wages

A tipster tells me the Biloxi Sun Herald will lay off 9 full-time equivalent positions, cut wages (2.5% to 10%), and mandate unpaid furloughs in the 2nd half of 2009. I'll pass on the details as they come in.

UPDATE: A commenter says the furloughs haven't been mandated, but management will consider furloughs as a possibility in the 2nd half of the year.

To see info on layoffs at other McClatchy newspapers go here.

No furloughs mandated. Said they'd look at the possibility in second half '09.

When all is said and done, one takes an approximate 12.5% cut in pay, but is thankful to still have a job.

Let me clarify the 7:05 statement... That's not management taking that hit, that's a worker bee. So, just like most construction, and rebuilding, here on the coast, ours will surely slow down or come to a halt. How can we afford it ?

McClatchy really needs to look into the inept management in Biloxi, however, that won't happen since it seems to be pretty much the same at many of the other McClatchy paper.
