Great news!... I finally found the Spammer's blog

It was not easy finding the Spammer's blog. His blog doesn't show up on a Google search, so after trying 3 or 4 different Google searches, I finally tried DogPile, and low and behold, there it was.

As you'd expect from somebody whose marketing plan was to prance around the comments section of my blog and leave 50 spam comments in a 24-hour period -- his blog is no threat to McClatchy Watch.

Looking at his posts today, I noticed the Spammer was a little late with news today. He posted the Modesto Bee info at 8:07 this morning; I had the Modesto Bee information last night, and re-posted it again after midnight. He posted info on the Fresno Bee developments at 12:18 PM, about an hour after I posted it on my blog. (And it looks like got the info from somebody who got it from me.)

But the bottom line -- I know 99% of my readers don't care about a blog war -- they want news about McClatchy. So I plan to add the Spammer to my routine and if there is good McClatchy info there, you bet I will link to it. And I'll give proper credit. (I'm already working on a post about an item I got from the Spammer's blog -- I'll put it up later tonite.)

I want my readers to know they get the best, most up-to-date information right here at McClatchy Watch.

I don't understand what the deal is with finding the spammer's blog...
I thought the whole problem when they started was that they were LINKING to it.

Don't know, don't care what the other blog has to offer...you say you live here in Sacramento, so you understand what we're dealing with in Sacramento.

Huh? Are you serious? You're going to link to the guy who's been trying to destroy your blog? Why would you do that?

I was emailed by a skeptical reader who couldn't believe I had trouble finding the Spammer's blog.

OK, do your own experiment. Enter newspapertrails in a Google search. To see what a Google search of newspapertrails turns up, click here.

To see what a Google search of newspapertrails2 turns up, click here. (This search is the funniest, because it captures the Spammer on my blog -- but not the Spammer's own blog.)

2 people tried to submit comments spamming the other site. Nice try.

I think you have to create your own blog at blogspot.com first to gain access to www.newspapertrails2.blogspot.com but there's not much to read there except about what bad atmospheres they now work in, their worries for their futures and how there's no free coffee at the Sac Bee anymore so productivity has gone down because employees go outside the building looking for coffee. Maybe I should tell them to save their $2.80 a day.

Funny. All this time I thought the goal was to make them go away. Are you poking moonbats with a stick? I'm telling PETA.

Cool. I like that. Go on, take the high road. Besides your differences, keep in mind that you're ON THE SAME SIDE. (opposite McClatchy)

Just get back to reporting on McClatchy. That's what we are here for.

Appreciate it, man.

Anonymous 6:56 -- Ssshh. What I'm doing will make sense in a few months.

7:03 -- thanks.

I'm serious about trying to get the best McClatchy info to readers.

So the high road benefits my readers, and me, too.

7:06, 7:18 I can hardly wait, NO JOKE. Can you out the spammer and his intentions? Or will we have to wait for that as well?

S/He says he's not a spammer. S/He's just trying to lead McClatchy employees to the light. S/He wants them to know where to find him. Hasn't figured out that the light is a train coming at them. Let them have their site. It's quite a pity party over there. We should send flowers. Or food. Or coffee.

This childish bullshit is the reason that so many people have left for another site.

I don't care that info shows up 6 hours later (night to day) as I am sleeping.

You are just upset because people chose to revolt against how you are running this site.

And since you obviously do not know how the web works...let me explain it to you.

When Google (re: any search engine) spiders a site they get all of the "context" of the articles. You post an article that says "Have any info? Let McClatchy Watch know". They post an article that says "Have any info? Post in comments".

Either knowingly or unknowingly you are improving your SEO (search engine optimization).

All people really care about is information...not where they get it from. But thank you for promoting the other site, and for visiting it to get information.

I will even sign this post so you know how to contact me to explain why you did not approve the comment.
