Is Monday D-Day in the northwest?

The agonizing wait for news about layoffs and cuts could end Monday for employees at one or more McClatchy newspapers... I have reason to believe at least one McClatchy newspaper in the northwest will have an announcement on Monday.

Bought an old time drive in theater pop corn popper just for the occasion. Let the show begin. I've been waiting to see the smiles wiped off the faces of some of these SCAB bastards. Karma baby! She's a bitch.

Could you tell me more about the scabs? When and where was this? Who?

Many people who will lose their jobs had nothing to do with whatever it is that makes you so mad at McClatchy (don't even bother telling us again what that is -- we're too bored by all of the low-grade political posturing on this blog).

If I get laid off this week, at least I know I'm better off than you. I'm not a mean, hate-filled loser of a person.

And the same goes for most of my McC colleagues around the country. Chins up!

Re:“ I'm not a mean, hate-filled loser of a person.”

Ah, but you are a liar. Why don’t you write down all the charming words you’ve called President Bush, and how you have not supported him, and our country. You would probably write some shit about you were writing ‘Truth to Power,’ for the good of the country. Well low-grade Bammer, we are clearing out the liars and cheaters in the information sources for the good of the country.

The dishonest media has given us a president that is not qualified to sell Girl Scout cookies. The questions you didn’t ask, and the unfavorable information you covered up, will be your source of shame forever more.

No one has even seen Barry’s birth certificate. Why is that? That is a story that the press should have been screaming about, instead, they wanted to see Gov. Palin’s baby’s birth certificate. Do you not see how ridiculous that was?

Anonymous said...

You know, I don't come here to read about Bush OR Obama. I just want to find out if I'll have a job by the end of the day. So why don't all of you leave the politics at the door and stay on track here at McClatchy Watch and actually watch McClatchy?

Anonymous said...

We had a media that swooned for a marionette. A puppet on strings, that turns out to be Pinocchio II. How long will his nose grow? A make-believe president with dishonorable people pulling the strings. We should cry for this loss of misinformation?

This McC. person set the tone I would say. It is just like a liberal to take cheap shots, and then declare cheap shots are low-grade. You are not in Kansas Toto. You’ll get what you give here.

Liberals won. The country won. Conservative crybabies lost.

I'm not a liar. I voted for Bush twice in fact (I live in Texas). But that has nothing to do with my job at McClatchy. I don't write about politics or government and never have. Neither have the vast majority of my colleagues. It's just so childish of you to ignore all the other people who work at these papers and all the other services newspapers provide other than hard news coverage. And root for us to lose our jobs, maybe our homes.

By low-grade, I meant name-calling, etc., instead of smart, incisive commentary about specific McClatchy stories and how they could have been done better. I rarely see comments on here that show that you people even read the coverage.

Good luck to everyone today at our West Coast papers!

[By low-grade, I meant name-calling] you just name-called!

You might win a prize for running backwards.
You voted for President Bush!

"You people," obviously, refers to the mean people on this blog. Nothing broader than that. If you're not posting reckless, mean things, I'm not referring to you. And I'm not even a liberal, by the way. "Low-grade" refers to the quality of the debate, not to people. Not name-calling. Not the same as calling perfect strangers "bastards," as in the first post on this thread that set me off, or Marxists...or liberals, if there's no evidence of that. Go back to school or something. Signing off now.

How can there be [smart, incisive commentary] about sniveling drivel? Shall we discuss the sale of trinkets as newsworthy? How about the story describing the qualifications of Barry Soetoro to be president? Oh that’s right, there never was one!

Conservatives work in McClatchy newsrooms. Lots of conservatives. They're quiet because the newsroom culture and management leans far left. They take crap and fume. They read the biased takes on stories and fume. They sit silently while diversity kills the talent pool. Now they are speaking out and it shocks lefty newsies. News flash: The person sitting to your right or left in the newsroom may not worship at the alter of liberalism.

we are so lucky that most people are smart enough to not fall for hatefull, stupid coments made by morons like 6:06( otherwise we be stuck with another P.O.S presedent that is dumb as a fucking rock).

people like him bothered me at first but now his stupidity is so transparent its easy to ignore.

The best thing to do is focus on the real news and content this blog provides and not feed the ego of these morons.

Liberals are in control for awhile ( thank God ) so no matter what stupid people like him say, it means nothing... nothing.

Good grief, my job is stake and everyday I have to sort thru buttloads of liberal vs conservative comments that would be better served being posted on a political themed website ala Rush Limbaugh's or Michelle Malkins or whoever. I have started going over to the other McClatchy blog just to read some actual McClatchy company news as opposed to these constant political debates in the comments section of every post.

Today I could find out if I will be spending the next few months unemployed.

You know, I'm a former McClatchy reporter. You all will survive the lay-offs. It's hard, and maybe you are the one who suggested people go back to school in a later post. You might want to follow that (your?) advice. Many of us did go to law and graduate school and are far better off.

But, McClatchy employees should take note of the tremendous hostility in the region against The Bee, because you will be facing it time and again. The paper did forsake news for ideology. It will look different to you when you are on the outside.

My guess is that management has made up one of their famous cut lists and will start on one of their smear campaigns against people; managers making vague, disparaging, under-the-breath but meant-to-be-overheard comments about individuals to undermine their reputations and to give the favored few a feeling that they are more competent or productive, or really, just more compliant.

I'm not bitter, mean or vengeful: I've just survived the McClatchy course. It's fascinating to me to watch this unfold.

I do have to say I understand why the paper has so little credibility in its community and why people applaud the idea of its going under. Never thought I would, but believe me, your perspective will change once you are not drinking the Kool-aid.®

Sadder but Wiser

Sorry, I won't try defending any of us anymore from the political rants and schadenfreude on here. Wish I had news about the layoffs but I don't. If I hear anything I'll post if on the other blog, where there's less of the "you all deserve it" sentiment.

Anonymous said...

Oh. What I meant was I understand why people hate The Bee. I didn't mean I applaud the idea of its going out of publication. I think if honest-to-god newspeople were brought in to run the place on an even keel and hiring policies changed (see Anon March 2, 2009 7:47 AM), the Bee could be king of the valley again.

It's not just the Bee. We've had 4 or 5 applicants from the local paper. None get hired because the memo says do not hire. If you ask why, the answer is, be polite but don't waste their time.

Dear Single Mom,

I've been where you are now. I'm sorry for what you are going through. I too could do without the liberal/conservative p***ing match. I can tell you, once you get a layoff notice from McC, you cannot expect to be treated like a human being by the HR dept. Once they are done with you, they are done. Get your COBRA forms now, fill them out, have them ready, update your contact info. I know those people smile and act like they are there to help, but once you are on the hit-list, all bets are off. I am not trying to be mean - I am trying to forewarn former coworkers.

Sorry.

The La Brea MNI Pits have seeped liberal tar up from the ground for thousands of hours.

The tar is often covered with water, which attracts Marxist Jounalist wildlife.

Over the years, the bones of these journalist that die in the pits sank into the ooze and were preserved.

You are SO right about being persona non grata to the HR department once you're laid off! They've never returned my calls when I had questions. Even when I went back to the building and asked Security to let me upstairs to HR to discuss an important matter, when they called for clearance, I was made to speak to the rep on the phone from the lobby. She didn't even have the courtesy to allow me to talk to her in person. And this after I gave them 20 of the best years of my life.

Sac Bee HR has been good to me, calling me back when I had questions, etc. True, once you sign the papers, they'll ask for your badge and you're an outcast. It's a bit humbling, but I'm guessing they don't want disgruntled former employees dumping coffee down keyboards and such.

The Sacbee is totally useless.
Who do we know among the MNI publishers and editors that has the nerve and integrity needed to ‘out’ Mr. Golden Boy Pruitt, and his gross failure to lead? Pruitt has single handedly ruined a company. That should be a major headline. How can a company that is so ready to scrutinize and report on dumpster finds in Alaska, not find and report on a festering cancer in its own body?

what about Boise???

Anonymous said...

True: Do not burn any bridges, even after you're gainfully employed. If you stay in the area, you'll see these people from time to time. It's not that big a town. I had the biggest rush of euphoria about six weeks after I walked out of a McClatchy newsroom. I was in a new job with great management, terrific coworkers in a good organization. Once you leave McClatchy, you realize what a poorly run outfit it is. I think a lot of the smugness editorial staff exhibit is whistling in the dark. Newsroom employees didn't do anything to saddle McClatchy with tons of debt, but they did bring about the drop in circulation by refusing to recognize where they are: in a state capitol surrounded by ag.
One more insider tip for critics: Bee editorial people write off any criticism as the rantings of evil rednecks. If you don't see their genius, it's only because you are too dumb and ignorant, you see. Sorry, former bosses and coworkers!
