Living in Miami without the Miami Herald

Editor and Publisher is reporting a panel of Miami community leaders and media experts are meeting today to ponder the possibility of living in Miami without The Herald.

The E&P story didn't give any details and I haven't been able to find any other info on today's panel. If you have info pass it along in comments.

Oh my, what will we do without a paper?

Maybe some MNI exec on this blog can tell me how to best get my daily DNC talking points.

My first job was with the Miami Herald. It was a great experience with great people. It was such a power house back in the day that it saddens me to see it fall.

Watch out 9:16, expressing those kind of feelings on this site will get you labeled a "lefty troll".

Anon 10:21 As a "right winger", I don't see it at all with anon
9:16's quote.

In its day I am sure it may have been a great paper.

Now if anon 10:21 comes on and said it is still a great unbias paper, I would take exception.

I've been at a major McClatchy paper for almost 20 years and the strangest thing about recent years is how empty the building has become. I remember a time when the building was almost too crowded and now it has a distinct echo. In recent years I've moved to the internet to get my news. I gave up reading newspapers many years ago because of they became so insipid, so politically-correct. It seemed as if every story had to have the words "lively", "vibrant", "diverse", "empowered", etc. For at least 10 years, I've come to understand what a citizen of the Soviet Union must have felt like if he was in touch with reality and surrounded by the lies of his government.

Up until Jim Batten past away, The Herald was a wonderful place to work. Many folks had their entire adult families working at the paper. Economy not withstanding, over those past years, it has slid down to where come hell or high water the only thing that mattered was the bottom line. The workers became just another slightly necessary liability.

I have worked at The Miami Herald for all of my adult life and it is going to fail over my dead body. Thank God for a liberal voice that keeps whacked-out conservatives from seeping into every corner of life.

Anon 11:00 We don't want you to die, just your lousy paper

Anon. 10:44 you're exactly right. I had many family members at the Herald. My father retired from there, after 40 yrs., as well as a couple of uncles and a cousin. It was "the" place to work. I was fresh out of high school and went to work in the advertising department. They offered great benefits, good pay, and valuable experience.

I guess the KC Scar isn’t the only place with overt nepotism. A liberal parent indoctrinating their children to take their place. Now it is clear why the MH is tanking. Good grief, it is worse than I even imagined. Talk about an echo chamber!

No loss there, the Miami Herald has been dead for years. It just didn’t stink enough until ‘ganggreen’ infected the whole body. Nice people, bad product.
Bada-boom, bada-bing.

Hey Anon 4:55, help me understand how the political views of someone working in advertising could have an impact on the NEWS content. Those are separate shops if I know my newspaper 101. Ditto for how can a pressman whose kid grows up to be a press machinist influence the paper to a liberal slant? Get real and quit looking around every corner for a liberal conspiracy. It doesn't exist. The newspaper industry is being hit by the perfect storm of Internet migration and economic collapse. And negative propaganda from other media who are licking their chops at picking up our market share.

It breaks up the monotony of the dash. Not everything is a new 10 code or Crip set.

So, if you are 23, that a way long time. Buh-bye.

You must not read the newspapers, although I don’t fault you for that, watching Spike TV sounds like a better use of your time.

Every top media pundit agrees there is a real need to reestablish trust, and drop the liberal slant. The Griefers will never learn, it seems that once integrity is gone, it is gone. A few days at a job that pays less than yours, may change your mind. What job pays less than yours anyway?

Remember, McClatchy loves you, Gary Pruitt loves you, 50% of people may want to believe you, but 50% do not, and never will again. Betting the odds doesn’t seem like your strong suit. Maybe Pru will give you some betting tips with your exit papers?

Ill take a liberal leaning media any day over a conservitive one. Why? because im not making over $400k a year. The majoirty of the people (lower/middle class) have been squeezed long enough its time for our government to change and give the people some breathing room. I think if we had to go another 8 years with republicans there would be massive demostrations and possibly open revolt by the people bringing us closer the end of our capitalism.

this country settled on two parties for a reason its called check and balance. we need both to check each other moraly and financialy.

its what makes this country greater than any other country in the world.

Fresh from a Marxist J-school are we? Let me think, the liberals took over government spending in 2006. You say you are better off now than then. You wanted the housing bust B. Frank (and the Dems) brought us, the resulting bank failures, and the future national debt we will never repay? You must not be reading the newspapers? They are having a difficult time still covering for the huge loss of integrity investment they made in a false Messiah.

PS: You made three spelling mistakes, not that I care, but you don’t write like any journalists I know.

Anon. 4:55...You are totally out of line. There was no nepotism involved in my getting a job at the Herald. No family members were in positions of influence, none were in the newsroom, and in fact, none of us even worked in the same area. As for being a liberal parent? Hah! My father is as conservative as they come, as am I.

“There was no nepotism involved in my getting a job at the Herald.”

I guess you think no one else here works at the Herald.
