Two and a half million share sell off after run of short covering. McClatchy closes back to .53 after massive over the counter sell off. Down 23.19% on the day.

The stock sell off was motivated by GM's financial woes. GM is one of MNI's largest local and national advertising accounts. Without a strong GM ad buy the stabilization in ad sales that MNI has talked about will quickly destabilize. More layoffs are imminent if GM does not get its house in order.

------------
No it wasn't. MNI traded up half the day until the sell off kicked in at around 1:45. It had nothing to do with GM as MNI has not tracked the market for several weeks. Up when the rest of the market was down due to short covering of well over a million shares during the last report period.

Granted, Obamacorn Nationalizing GM, hawking his new company on national TV, firing their CEO and sending his own (on) crack team to run the show has every CEO and shareholder in the country on edge. In the case of McClatchy however, being nationalized would be a dream come true for them.

Rumor has it that the KC Star's new "niche magazine" aimed at KC moms is actually entirely advertorial. How ironic.

John Altevogt said...

Pg1News: The same could be said for many of The Star's "editorials". Then there are the direct advertorial types like the "Citistates Report" as I believe it was called that was dumped onto the site's editorial page for quite some time. The Star is nothing if not a whore for the local metro area establishment.

Will anyone miss SACBEE sports writer (?) Marty Mac (Martin McNeal) and his dynamic writing. Yesterday was his last column, thank God, and tomorrow the desk goes clean. He had a column last week about being disc by former NBA player Olden Polynice on an artice he wrote about him years ago when Polynice was a Kings player. Well Duh!! That's a first for a sports writer. You wonder why even the Bee kept him for over 30 years. Could it have been he was the correct color!! He was so cool and hip on sports radio shows he had trouble controlling it all. Empty white space in the Bee is better than one of his articles. But off with all their heads.

Bottom line has learned that the Scar will discontinue local news effective April 1. Of course as usual you won't be hearing it from the Star but this is bigger news than anyone would have you believe. The local news that they are eliminating isn't one of the suburban outliers. It is literally right next door a couple of miles from the Scar's front door!

It appears that the Scar without saying so has resigned itself to complete and total, cut/paste journalism.

2:21: McNeal only worked at the Bee for around 20 years, not more than 30. He was a nice guy, but after his days as Kings beat writer, he sort of faded and didn't write much, other than an awful sometimes column. No, he wasn't a great writer, but he was a good guy and had lots of friends.

Mel is on the Biden scandal. We can expect her Exposé in the early edition of the Sacked-Bee. Well, maybe her PM(S) edition.

Wait you dummy, there is no afternoon edition in a three page newspaper.
Anyway, the New, new business model is to fold the pages into paper airplanes, and fly the paper to the eight remaining home delivery subscribers.

Rumor has it Barry Soetoro (aka) Barack Obama has had a very bad start as the media’s selected president. It seems a new book and name change are on the horizon. ‘Digital Pinocchio’ is being considered as his new name choice, and the book title is ‘Bowling for your dollars.” That should bring in a cushy deal. With Rezko out of commission, one has to pick up spare ‘Change’ where one can, don’t you know? Perhaps a Special Olympics joke will up Barry’s slipping poll numbers? Bill is up for another ghost writing job as soon as he finishes his bomb school gig.

White House Bid Specs for Video Teleprompter Glasses-
— Mountebank News

The White House has quietly released bid specifications for next-generation teleprompter glasses, according to industry insiders (similar to model pictured here). The Obama Administration has been talking privately with several manufacturers expected to participate in silent-bids during April 2009 with working prototypes to be submitted during June.

Just when you think the guy is nuts, he proves himself otherwise.

5:40 Your comments even more explains some of the SACBEE problems. Why would they have kept him at all if he couldn't write. 2:21 must be on to something.

lexington raised daily prices to .75 cents today up from 50 cents. Does anyone thinks it's worth 50 anymore let alone 75 cents!

Anchorage went up to 75 cents today as well. Two 10-page sections with several full page ads. And that includes classifieds!

-new "niche magazine" aimed at KC moms is actually entirely advertorial.-

So no editorial? All content provided by advertisers?

Prediction: The next round of layoffs for McClatchy will be announced before the end of the 3rd quarter. Sept 30, 2009.

Why is there so much off topic political stuff? It's annoying. Perhaps we should coin a new term for it: Blogspam.
