This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

Monday evening thread for comments, tips, and info
If you have comments or tips, leave it in comments. . .
"Here at The (insert paper here), we are experiencing advertising losses greater than any of us have ever seen in our history".
Get a clue! Advertisers are getting more creative AND giving away freebies...Denny's with a free breakfast, Taco Bell with free tacos, IHOP with free pancakes, StarBucks free coffee, Jack in the box with free fries and a drink...well the list goes on. Give it away and they will come (back). It probably cost as much to give away free food as it did to place a national ad! In these times when people are pinching pennies, give 'em sumpin' free and you hook them. Too bad McClatchy can't figure out how to hook these customers OR get the advertisers back! Then there's the problem of their major advertisers going out ofbusiness!
BTW go on line and get the Jack in the Box coupon today 'cause the free fries and a drink is only tomorrow WITH a coupon!
It's been an hour and 1/2 - doesn't anybody have anything to say about the Modesto vote?
---
What is to say? It isn't like there is any doubt that they will/have vote yes. For crying out loud, it is California. Home of throwing your brother to the wolves and hoping they will be full before they get to you.
They will have accepted like everyone else I bet. Great tactic. You are not sure if you are on the list, so you vote yes out of fear for your job. Got to hand it to them they did this well.
Give it away free? The ads PAY for the paper these days. Subscription revenues are an inconsequential part of a paper's budget. If you give away ads for free, how do you pay for the people, the newsprint and the ink? As well as the lights in the newsroom and the computer? The stuff given away free has no VALUE.

Thanks for adopting the evening thread idea from you-know-where.
Great article. I especially liked the third comment which so glaringly illustrated the exact point that the author so astutely described.
7:55 PM Don't you have some spamming to do?
Any news on the Modesto Guild vote?

Just give some FREE un-biased news with both sides of the arguement and I'm happy.
Or (MNI) simply tell me, "This is what the DNC want's us to tell you..."
How about some real, "Truth to Power" instead of Tired Old Sellouts"
