This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.
I'm interested in the two major newspapers in the DFW market. I hope they both servive or atleast become one. They both should look at cutting the print load. I always see too many left over papers at the end of the day. Maybe they should just print what they sell.
The Times left off the Oklahoma City and Louisville papers, both of which have circulation close to 200,000. Are there any other big papers that got left of the list?
The Fort Worth Star Telegram took a big hit on the job eliminations and buyouts. From what I am hearing practically all buyouts were accepted. ALL the key employees are gone and the ones left will not be able to carry the load by themselves. McClatchy cannot have any motive to try and save the Star Telegram or any of it other papers like this. For all the degrees, intelligence, and experience the McClatchy Corp is suppose to have, I can't quite figure out how they can all be such a bunch of idiots. No paper, No subscriptions, No money, bottom line.
Sorry, Sleepless, KR was by no means failing. KR was a strategic and forward-thinking company in a way that McClatchy has never demonstrated to we former KR people. KR was a victim of Wall Street. Sometimes we employees complained about the things KR corporate did, but having worked for MNI for a couple of years, we're shaking our heads and saying "Be careful what you pray for."

"Experts say" a major American city could soon be left without a daily newspaper? I said that a year ago.
What about Alaska??? We are a state afterall...
Anon. 8:38. Then it looks like the Sacbee is safe.
Anon 9:36, please, we are a major American small town. We aspire to cityocity by buying failing newspaper chains.
You little people simply don't understand the world of high finance, where it is wise to pay twice an asset's value.
Trust us, we know what we're doing.
