This blog is mainly about the spectacular train wreck at The Sacramento Bee and its parent company, the McClatchy Company. But I also post about current events, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, politics, anything else that grabs my attention. Take a look around this blog, hope you enjoy it.

What are you hearing?
No developments at Anchorage to report, but I understand employees -- the ones that haven't bailed -- are holding their breath. If you have info on any goings-on, leave it in comments. . . .
Dougherty has a smell about him from dumpster diving. Garbage in, garbage out. The end of ADN cannot come soon enough. The stench of his cowardice is overwhelming.
I wonder if Dougherty ever found the birth certificate he sough? You ask if it was Obama’s birth certificate? No, no, it was way more important than that!
Wish Dougherty ill if you must, but don't wish for the demise of the ADN. He may be the pompous arrogant ass at the helm, but there are a lot of other, better people who work there too. Don't wish them harm.
You would hardly expect a newspaper failing would be good for a city and state, but that's the case with ADN.
Here's hoping Sean Cockerham, the reporter who openly admits he doesn't like Sarah Palin, but continues to cover her ends up at a Burger King. No, make that a Rally's. BK is too upscale for Sean.
South Carolina newspaper announces 20 layoffs, time and pay cuts to take effect in May
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina newspaper has announced it will eliminate 20 positions and reduce pay and work hours for its remaining staffers.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach announced Monday that the cuts will take effect on May 4.
In an announcement to employees, Pamela J. Browning, the newspaper's president and publisher, said the Sun News will move to a 37 1/2-hour work week for hourly employees and will reduce pay for all salaried employees. Details of the pay cuts weren't immediately available.
The layoffs affect advertising, circulation, news, operations, finance and administration departments.
The most recent layoffs and pay cuts follow a Feb. 5 announcement by McClatchy Co., which owns The Sun News, that the company will further reduce operating expenses because of economic pressures and revenue declines.
Thank heaven for the haters. At least it gives them a reason to read. Better that than all those so bored with the ADN they let it sit in the driveway. Maybe the ADN should go after Palin ever day, though that would require some courage.
Thank GOD the Anchorage Daily News is dying. After their vicious attacks on Palin, her children, and even Sarah's BABY, they deserve everything they get.
Great job with this blog, by the way, chronicling the glorious death of a horrifically liberal media company whose "reporting" has been a lot closer to "treason" in recent years.
Dougherty?... When's he finally gonna finish his shave? The folks still here at ADN are all expecting the big notice to come... even middle mgmt doesn't know when though. One thing I have to say, since the paper went down to about half the size it was, it sure is a lot easier to read through all the fillers...
On Sunday the Star Telegram announced a price increase for single copy sales. The information ran on page 6b.
Our NBC affiliate ran that story last night (Monday).
As of COB Tuesday, there has not been an official notification to that staff.
Someone please help me understand this. We'll tell the public but we expect the employees to find out about it through the paper instead of "normal" channles.
Wortel is such a hack it's sad. Wes Turner is laughing all the way to the bank as he works for an East coast media company while still living in Fort Worth.
Lots of meetings being held at ADN, directors going back and forth to each others offices.. They recently unscrewed every other light bulb in the hallways to conserve elect...mood lighting

Yeah, Dougherty has not posted anything on the Editor's Blog for about a month.
Maybe he's too busy stalking Sarah Palin and her family.

yes and Dougherty's blog was always filled with such useful information. Useful if the your entire focus in life was to vilify Palin.

Uh...they do. Not my definition of "courage" but bashing Palin has been the primary focus of ADN for the last year.
I feel bad for a lot of the folks at ADN that will be laid off. However their editorial and political staff deserve it.
I wonder how many Liberal newspaper staff the Obama Adminstration will absorb.

some of us that were at the Times remember this feeling in the air, of not knowing what's going on...
time to change careers
Hey, ADN staffers: have you jumped yet?

I think the answer to that would be - jump where?
