Wild rumor of the day: The News $ Observer (Raleigh) publisher, Orage Quayles will assume the duties for The Charlotte Observer. Caulkins will be leaving. This makes sense if you look at what has gone on in the past few months. First the sports departments were consolidated with one sports editor running the show. Raleigh took over the State government beat, adding two Charlotte reporters to the mix. Just recently it was announced Linda Williams (Raleigh) will be the editor of both the CO and N&O feature staffs. Why have an overpaid publisher at BOTH papers. Now they can have an overpaid publisher in CHARGE of BOTH papers. Adios, Annie old girl.

Hey, rumor monger: It's Quarles, not Quayles.

Learn how to spell BEFORE you starting spreading things that might or might not be true.

2:44, you've posted the same thing in 2 or 3 spots, with incorrect spellings both times, and a $ instead of an &.
Fail.

Speaking of craziness - I heard in Lexington that we're only going to be running the presses at night and losing 6 pressmen & that some of our printing will now be done by the Louisville Courier-Journal - which is 1 hour+ away and a Gannett paper!!

The Herald-Leader had under cover cops roaming the building today and will probably be there the rest of the week.

We're going to be delivering our competitor's newspapers to their subscribers in our area. Not sure when that's starting, but I guess we'll be like a company delivery boy (or girl). Wonder if we'll be getting Christmas bonuses???

Linda Williams (Orages's girl)
is an affirmative action employee.
(another?)

She is a joke.

fyi - The Lexington paper has been delivering other periodicals and newspapers, including the CJ, for quite a while now. This started in 2007 and has been a huge revenue gain. Some Lexington carriers deliver 5 papers through the week.

Nothing new there.

Really sorry to hear about pressroom change. They were already struggling to keep up with everything. Hope the "executives" have a PLAN for that.

The Herald-Leader is very diverse in it's employees. If the job gets done, it doesn't matter what gender or color you are.

But they are getting less diverse all the time. They laid off at least 3 minority employees in the newsroom yesterday.
